Kohelet – Ecclesiastes – Chapter 8

1  Who is like the wise man, and who knows the meaning of a thing? A man’s wisdom makes his face shine, and the boldness of his face is changed.		אמִי־כְּהֶ֣חָכָ֔ם וּמִ֥י יוֹדֵ֖עַ פֵּ֣שֶׁר דָּבָ֑ר חָכְמַ֤ת אָדָם֙ תָּאִ֣יר פָּנָ֔י ו וְעֹ֥ז פָּנָ֖יו יְשֻׁנֶּֽא:
2  I [am prepared to] observe the commandment of the King, and concerning the oath of God.		באֲנִי֙ פִּי־מֶ֣לֶךְ שְׁמֹ֔ר וְעַ֕ל דִּבְרַ֖ת שְׁבוּעַ֥ת אֱלֹהִֽים:
3 Hasten not to go away from before Him; stay not in an evil thing; for all that He wishes, He will do.		גאַל־תִּבָּהֵ֤ל מִפָּנָיו֙ תֵּלֵ֔ךְ אַֽל־תַּֽעֲמֹ֖ד בְּדָבָ֣ר רָ֑ע כִּ֛י כָּל־אֲשֶׁ֥ר יַחְפֹּ֖ץ יַֽעֲשֶֽׂה:
4 Inasmuch as the King’s word is the rule, and who will say to Him, “What are You doing?”		דבַּֽאֲשֶׁ֥ר דְּבַר־מֶ֖לֶךְ שִׁלְט֑וֹן וּמִ֥י יֹֽאמַר־ל֖וֹ מַֽה־תַּֽעֲשֶֽׂה:
5 Whoever keeps the commandment shall know no evil thing, and the heart of a wise man knows time and justice.		השׁוֹמֵ֣ר מִצְוָ֔ה לֹ֥א יֵדַ֖ע דָּבָ֣ר רָ֑ע וְעֵ֣ת וּמִשְׁפָּ֔ט יֵדַ֖ע לֵ֥ב חָכָֽם:
6 For every desire has a time and judgment, when the evil of man is great upon him.		וכִּ֣י לְכָל־חֵ֔פֶץ יֵ֖שׁ עֵ֣ת וּמִשְׁפָּ֑ט כִּֽי־רָעַ֥ת הָֽאָדָ֖ם רַבָּ֥ה עָלָֽיו:
7 For he knows not what will be, for how it will be, who will tell him?		זכִּֽי־אֵינֶ֥נּוּ יֹדֵ֖עַ מַה־שֶּׁיִּֽהְיֶ֑ה כִּ֚י כַּֽאֲשֶׁ֣ר יִֽהְיֶ֔ה מִ֖י יַגִּ֥יד לֽוֹ:
8 No man controls the will [of God’s messenger] to retain the spirit, and there is no ruling on the day of death; neither is there discharge in war, nor will wickedness save the one who practices it.		חאֵ֣ין אָדָ֞ם שַׁלִּ֤יט בָּר֨וּחַ֙ לִכְל֣וֹא אֶת־הָר֔וּחַ וְאֵ֤ין שִׁלְטוֹן֙ בְּי֣וֹם הַמָּ֔וֶת וְאֵ֥ין מִשְׁלַ֖חַת בַּמִּלְחָמָ֑ה וְלֹֽא־יְמַלֵּ֥ט רֶ֖שַׁע אֶת־בְּעָלָֽיו:
9 I saw all this, and I applied my heart to all the work that is done under the sun, a time that a man ruled over [another] man for his [own] harm.		טאֶת־כָּל־זֶ֤ה רָאִ֨יתִי֙ וְנָת֣וֹן אֶת־לִבִּ֔י לְכָֽל־מַֽעֲשֶׂ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר נַֽעֲשָׂ֖ה תַּ֣חַת הַשָּׁ֑מֶשׁ עֵ֗ת אֲשֶׁ֨ר שָׁלַ֧ט הָֽאָדָ֛ם בְּאָדָ֖ם לְרַ֥ע לֽוֹ:
10 And so I saw the wicked buried, and they came, and from the place of the Holy One they go away, and they will be forgotten in the city that they did so; this too is vanity.		יוּבְכֵ֡ן רָאִ֩יתִי֩ רְשָׁעִ֨ים קְבֻרִ֜ים וָבָ֗אוּ וּמִמְּק֤וֹם קָדוֹשׁ֙ יְהַלֵּ֔כוּ וְיִֽשְׁתַּכְּח֥וּ בָעִ֖יר אֲשֶׁ֣ר כֵּֽן־עָשׂ֑וּ גַּם־זֶ֖ה הָֽבֶל:
11 Because the sentence of the deed of evil is not executed swiftly; therefore, the heart of the children of men is encouraged to do evil.		יאאֲשֶׁר֙ אֵֽין־נַֽעֲשָׂ֣ה פִתְגָ֔ם מַֽעֲשֵׂ֥ה הָֽרָעָ֖ה מְהֵרָ֑ה עַל־כֵּ֡ן מָלֵ֞א לֵ֧ב בְּֽנֵי־הָֽאָדָ֛ם בָּהֶ֖ם לַֽעֲשׂ֥וֹת רָֽע:
12 For a sinner does evil a hundred [years], and He grants him an extension; but I know too that it will be good for those who fear God because they fear Him.		יבאֲשֶׁ֣ר חֹטֶ֗א עֹשֶׂ֥ה רָ֛ע מְאַ֖ת וּמַֽאֲרִ֣יךְ ל֑וֹ כִּ֚י גַּם־יוֹדֵ֣עַ אָ֔נִי אֲשֶׁ֤ר יִֽהְיֶה־טּוֹב֙ לְיִרְאֵ֣י הָֽאֱלֹהִ֔ים אֲשֶׁ֥ר יִֽירְא֖וּ מִלְּפָנָֽיו:
13 But it will not be well with the wicked, and he will not prolong [his] days, like a shadow, because he does not fear God.		יגוְטוֹב֙ לֹא־יִֽהְיֶ֣ה לָֽרָשָׁ֔ע וְלֹא־יַֽאֲרִ֥יךְ יָמִ֖ים כַּצֵּ֑ל אֲשֶׁ֛ר אֵינֶ֥נּוּ יָרֵ֖א מִלִּפְנֵ֥י אֱלֹהִֽים:
14 There is vanity that is done on the earth, that there are righteous men to whom it happens according to the deed of the wicked, and there are wicked men to whom it happens according to the deed of the righteous; I said that this too is vanity.		ידיֶשׁ־הֶ֘בֶל֘ אֲשֶׁ֣ר נַֽעֲשָׂ֣ה עַל־הָאָ֒רֶץ֒ אֲשֶׁ֣ר | יֵ֣שׁ צַדִּיקִ֗ים אֲשֶׁ֨ר מַגִּ֤יעַ אֲלֵהֶם֙ כְּמַֽעֲשֵׂ֣ה הָֽרְשָׁעִ֔ים וְיֵ֣שׁ רְשָׁעִ֔ים שֶׁמַּגִּ֥יעַ אֲלֵהֶ֖ם כְּמַֽעֲשֵׂ֣ה הַצַּדִּיקִ֑ים אָמַ֕רְתִּי שֶׁגַּם־זֶ֖ה הָֽבֶל:
15 And I praised joy, for there is nothing better for man under the sun than to eat and to drink and to be merry, and that will accompany him in his toil the days of his life that God gave him under the sun.		טווְשִׁבַּ֤חְתִּֽי אֲנִי֙ אֶת־הַשִּׂמְחָ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֨ר אֵֽין־ט֤וֹב לָֽאָדָם֙ תַּ֣חַת הַשֶּׁמֶ֔שׁ כִּ֛י אִם־לֶֽאֱכֹ֥ל וְלִשְׁתּ֖וֹת וְלִשְׂמ֑וֹחַ וְה֞וּא יִלְוֶ֣נּוּ בַֽעֲמָל֗וֹ יְמֵ֥י חַיָּ֛יו אֲשֶׁר־נָֽתַן־ל֥וֹ הָֽאֱלֹהִ֖ים תַּ֥חַת הַשָּֽׁמֶשׁ:
16 When I applied my heart to know wisdom and to see the conduct that is done upon the earth, for neither by day nor by night does he see sleep with his eyes.		טזכַּֽאֲשֶׁ֨ר נָתַ֤תִּי אֶת־לִבִּי֙ לָדַ֣עַת חָכְמָ֔ה וְלִרְאוֹת֙ אֶת־הָ֣עִנְיָ֔ן אֲשֶׁ֥ר נַֽעֲשָׂ֖ה עַל־הָאָ֑רֶץ כִּ֣י גַ֤ם בַּיּוֹם֙ וּבַלַּ֔יְלָה שֵׁנָ֕ה בְּעֵינָ֖יו אֵינֶ֥נּוּ רֹאֶֽה:
17 And I saw all the deed of God, for a person will not be able to fathom the deed that is done under the sun, because though a man toils to seek, he will not fathom [it], and even if the wise man claims to know [it], he will be unable to fathom [it].		יזוְרָאִ֘יתִ֘י אֶת־כָּל־מַֽעֲשֵׂ֣ה הָֽאֱלֹהִים֒ כִּי֩ לֹ֨א יוּכַ֜ל הָֽאָדָ֗ם לִמְצוֹא֙ אֶת־הַֽמַּֽעֲשֶׂה֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר נַֽעֲשָׂ֣ה תַֽחַת־הַשֶּׁ֔מֶשׁ בְּ֠שֶׁ֠ל אֲשֶׁ֨ר יַֽעֲמֹ֧ל הָֽאָדָ֛ם לְבַקֵּ֖שׁ וְלֹ֣א יִמְצָ֑א וְגַ֨ם אִם־יֹאמַ֤ר הֶֽחָכָם֙ לָדַ֔עַת לֹ֥א יוּכַ֖ל לִמְצֹֽא:

Eclesiastés 8

(1) ¿Quién es como el hombre sabio? ¿Quién conoce la interpretación de una cosa? La sabiduría de un hombre hace resplandecer su semblante y cambia la aspereza de su rostro.

(2) (Te aconsejo) que cumplas la orden del rey, por consideración al juramento de Dios.

(3) No te apresures a salir de su presencia. No persistas en una mala acción (imitándole), porque él hace lo que le plazca.

(4) Como la palabra del rey tiene poder, ¿quién puede decirle: “¿Qué haces tú?”.

(5) El que cumple el mandamiento no conocera cosa mala y el corazón del hombre sabio discierne tiempo y justicia.

(6) Porque para cada asunto hay tiempo y un juicio, pues el mal del hombre es grande sobre él.

(7) Por cuanto no sabe lo que será, ya que ¿quién se lo aclarará?

(8) No hay hombre que tenga poder sobre el viento como para atajarlo, ni que tengas la facultad de saber el día de tu muerte. No hay modo de escapar a esta guerra, ni la iniquidad librará al que es dado a ella.

(9) Todo eso he visto y aplique mi corazón a ello, cualquiera fuese el trabajo que se hacía bajo el sol. (Y vi) el tiempo en el que un hombre tiene poder sobre otro para su perjuicio.

(10) Y vi (también) como sepultaban a los inicuos en su lugar de reposo y como los justos se iban del lugar santo y eran olvidados en la ciudad. Eso tambien es vanidad.

(11) Porque no se ejecuta con rapidez la sentencia contra una obra mala, el corazón de los hijos de hombres está presto a hacer el mal.

(12) Pero aunque el pecador haga el mal cien veces y prolongue sus días, sé que le irá bien al que teme delante de Dios.

(13) Y no le irá bien al malvado, ni sobrevivirá mucho, ya que sus días son como una sombra porque no teme delante de Dios.

(14) Con (todo), hay una vanidad sobre la tierra: que hay hombres justos a quienes les ocurre conforme a la obra de los malvados y que hay malvados a los que le sucede conforme a la obra de los justos. Digo que eso tambien es vanidad.

(15) Por lo tanto, alabo la alegría. El hombre no tiene mejor cosa bajo el sol que comer, beber y estar alegre; que eso lo acompañe en su labor todos los días de la vida que Dios le dio bajo el sol.

(16) Cuando apliqué mi corazón a conocer la sabiduría y a ver las cosas que se hacen sobre la tierra – porque hay quienes ni de día ni de noche ven el sueño con los ojos-,

(17) contemplé toda la obra De Dios, la cual no puede ser descifrada por el hombre bajo el sol porque, por más que se afane en ello, el hombre no podrá averiguar; más aún: aunque algún sabio crea que lo sabe, (en realidad) no podrá saberlo.

1 For all this I laid to my heart and to clarify all this, that the righteous and the wise and their works are in God’s hand; even love, even hate, man does not know; everything is before them.		אכִּ֣י אֶת־כָּל־זֶ֞ה נָתַ֤תִּי אֶל־לִבִּי֙ וְלָב֣וּר אֶת־כָּל־זֶ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֨ר הַצַּדִּיקִ֧ים וְהַֽחֲכָמִ֛ים וַֽעֲבָדֵיהֶ֖ם בְּיַ֣ד הָֽאֱלֹהִ֑ים גַּם־אַֽהֲבָ֣ה גַם־שִׂנְאָ֗ה אֵ֤ין יוֹדֵ֨עַ֙ הָֽאָדָ֔ם הַכֹּ֖ל לִפְנֵיהֶֽם:
2 Everything [comes to them] as [it comes] to all; [there is] one occurrence for the righteous and for the wicked, for the good, and for the pure, and for the unclean, and for he who sacrifices, and for he who does not sacrifice; like the good, so is the sinner; he who swears is like him who fears an oath.		בהַכֹּ֞ל כַּֽאֲשֶׁ֣ר לַכֹּ֗ל מִקְרֶ֨ה אֶחָ֜ד לַצַּדִּ֤יק וְ לָֽרָשָׁע֙ לַטּוֹב֙ וְלַטָּה֣וֹר וְלַטָּמֵ֔א וְלַ֨זֹּבֵ֔חַ וְלַֽאֲשֶׁ֖ר אֵינֶ֣נּוּ זֹבֵ֑חַ כַּטּוֹב֙ כַּֽחֹטֶ֔א הַנִּשְׁבָּ֕ע כַּֽאֲשֶׁ֖ר שְׁבוּעָ֥ה יָרֵֽא:
3 This is the most evil in all that is done under the sun, that all have one occurrence, and also the heart of the children of men is full of evil, and there is madness in their heart in their lifetime, and after that they go to the dead.		גזֶ֣ה | רָ֗ע בְּכֹ֤ל אֲשֶֽׁר־נַֽעֲשָׂה֙ תַּ֣חַת הַשֶּׁ֔מֶשׁ כִּֽי־מִקְרֶ֥ה אֶחָ֖ד לַכֹּ֑ל וְגַ֣ם לֵ֣ב בְּֽנֵי־הָֽ֠אָדָ֠ם מָֽלֵא־רָ֨ע וְהֽוֹלֵל֤וֹת בִּלְבָבָם֙ בְּחַיֵּיהֶ֔ם וְאַֽחֲרָ֖יו אֶל־הַמֵּתִֽים:
4 For whoever is joined to all the living has hope, for concerning a live dog [it is said that] he is better than a dead lion.		דכִּי־מִי֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר יְחֻבַּ֔ר (כתיב יְבֻחַ֔ר) אֶ֥ל כָּל־הַֽחַיִּ֖ים יֵ֣שׁ בִּטָּח֑וֹן כִּֽי־לְכֶ֤לֶב חַי֙ ה֣וּא ט֔וֹב מִן־הָֽאַרְיֵ֖ה הַמֵּֽת:
5 For the living know that they will die, but the dead know nothing, and they have no more reward, for their remembrance is forgotten.		הכִּ֧י הַֽחַיִּ֛ים יֽוֹדְעִ֖ים שֶׁיָּמֻ֑תוּ וְהַמֵּתִ֞ים אֵינָ֧ם יֽוֹדְעִ֣ים מְא֗וּמָה וְאֵֽין־ע֤וֹד לָהֶם֙ שָׂכָ֔ר כִּ֥י נִשְׁכַּ֖ח זִכְרָֽם:
6 Also their love, as well as their hate, as well as their provocation has already been lost, and they have no more share forever in all that is done under the sun.		וגַּ֣ם אַֽהֲבָתָ֧ם גַּם־שִׂנְאָתָ֛ם גַּם־קִנְאָתָ֖ם כְּבָ֣ר אָבָ֑דָה וְחֵ֨לֶק אֵֽין־לָהֶ֥ם עוֹד֙ לְעוֹלָ֔ם בְּכֹ֥ל אֲשֶֽׁר־נַֽעֲשָׂ֖ה תַּ֥חַת הַשָּֽׁמֶשׁ:
7 Go, eat your bread joyfully and drink your wine with a merry heart, for God has already accepted your deeds.		זלֵ֣ךְ אֱכֹ֤ל בְּשִׂמְחָה֙ לַחְמֶ֔ךָ וּֽשְׁתֵ֥ה בְלֶב־ט֖וֹב יֵינֶ֑ךָ כִּ֣י כְבָ֔ר רָצָ֥ה הָֽאֱלֹהִ֖ים אֶֽת־מַֽעֲשֶֽׂיךָ:
8 At all times, let your garments be white, and let oil not be wanting on your head.		חבְּכָל־עֵ֕ת יִֽהְי֥וּ בְגָדֶ֖יךָ לְבָנִ֑ים וְשֶׁ֖מֶן עַל־רֹֽאשְׁךָ֥ אַל־יֶחְסָֽר:
9 Enjoy life with the wife whom you love all the days of the life of your vanity, whom He has given you under the sun, all the days of your vanity, for that is your portion in life and in your toil that you toil under the sun.		טרְאֵ֨ה חַיִּ֜ים עִם־אִשָּׁ֣ה אֲשֶׁר־אָהַ֗בְתָּ כָּל־יְמֵי֙ חַיֵּ֣י הֶבְלֶ֔ךָ אֲשֶׁ֤ר נָֽתַן־לְךָ֙ תַּ֣חַת הַשֶּׁ֔מֶשׁ כֹּ֖ל יְמֵ֣י הֶבְלֶ֑ךָ כִּ֣י ה֤וּא חֶלְקְךָ֙ בַּֽחַיִּ֔ים וּבַֽעֲמָ֣לְךָ֔ אֲשֶׁר־אַתָּ֥ה עָמֵ֖ל תַּ֥חַת הַשָּֽׁמֶשׁ:
10 Whatever your hand attains to do [as long as you are] with your strength, do; for there is neither deed nor reckoning, neither knowledge nor wisdom in the grave, where you are going.		יכֹּ֠ל אֲשֶׁ֨ר תִּמְצָ֧א יָֽדְךָ֛ לַֽעֲשׂ֥וֹת בְּכֹֽחֲךָ֖ עֲשֵׂ֑ה כִּי֩ אֵ֨ין מַֽעֲשֶׂ֤ה וְחֶשְׁבּוֹן֙ וְדַ֣עַת וְחָכְמָ֔ה בִּשְׁא֕וֹל אֲשֶׁ֥ר אַתָּ֖ה הֹלֵ֥ךְ שָֽׁמָּה:
11 I returned and saw under the sun, that the race does not belong to the swift, nor the war to the mighty; neither do the wise have bread, nor do the understanding have riches, nor the knowledgeable, favor; for time and fate will overtake them all.		יאשַׁ֜בְתִּי וְרָאֹ֣ה תַֽחַת־הַשֶּׁ֗מֶשׁ כִּ֣י לֹא֩ לַקַּלִּ֨ים הַמֵּר֜וֹץ וְלֹ֧א לַגִּבּוֹרִ֣ים הַמִּלְחָמָ֗ה וְ֠גַ֠ם לֹ֣א לַֽחֲכָמִ֥ים לֶ֨חֶם֙ וְגַ֨ם לֹ֤א לַנְּבֹנִים֙ עֹ֔שֶׁר וְגַ֛ם לֹ֥א לַיֹּֽדְעִ֖ים חֵ֑ן כִּי־עֵ֥ת וָפֶ֖גַע יִקְרֶ֥ה אֶת־כֻּלָּֽם:
12 For a person does not even know his time, like the fish that are caught with an inferior trap and like the birds that are caught in the snare; like them, the children of men are trapped at a time of evil, when it falls upon them suddenly.		יבכִּ֡י גַּם֩ לֹֽא־יֵדַ֨ע הָֽאָדָ֜ם אֶת־עִתּ֗וֹ כַּדָּגִים֙ שֶׁנֶּֽאֱחָזִים֙ בִּמְצוֹדָ֣ה רָעָ֔ה וְכַ֨צִּפֳּרִ֔ים הָֽאֲחֻז֖וֹת בַּפָּ֑ח כָּהֵ֗ם יֽוּקָשִׁים֙ בְּנֵ֣י הָֽאָדָ֔ם לְעֵ֣ת רָעָ֔ה כְּשֶׁתִּפּ֥וֹל עֲלֵיהֶ֖ם פִּתְאֹֽם:
13 This also have I seen as wisdom under the sun, and it seemed great to me.		יגגַּם־זֹ֛ה רָאִ֥יתִי חָכְמָ֖ה תַּ֣חַת הַשָּׁ֑מֶשׁ וּגְדוֹלָ֥ה הִ֖יא אֵלָֽי:
14 [There was] a small city, with few people in it, and a great king came upon it and surrounded it and built over it great bulwarks.		ידעִ֣יר קְטַנָּ֔ה וַֽאֲנָשִׁ֥ים בָּ֖הּ מְעָ֑ט וּבָֽא־אֵלֶ֜יהָ מֶ֤לֶךְ גָּדוֹל֙ וְסָבַ֣ב אֹתָ֔הּ וּבָנָ֥ה עָלֶ֖יהָ מְצוֹדִ֥ים גְּדֹלִֽים:
15 And there was found therein a poor wise man, and he extricated the city through his wisdom, but no man remembered that poor man.		טווּמָ֣צָא בָ֗הּ אִ֤ישׁ מִסְכֵּן֙ חָכָ֔ם וּמִלַּט־ה֥וּא אֶת־הָעִ֖יר בְּחָכְמָת֑ וֹ וְאָדָם֙ לֹ֣א זָכַ֔ר אֶת־הָאִ֥ישׁ הַמִּסְכֵּ֖ן הַהֽוּא:
16 And I said, “Wisdom is better than might, but the wisdom of the poor man is despised, and his words are not heard.”		טזוְאָמַ֣רְתִּי אָ֔נִי טוֹבָ֥ה חָכְמָ֖ה מִגְּבוּרָ֑ה וְחָכְמַ֤ת הַמִּסְכֵּן֙ בְּזוּיָ֔ה וּדְבָרָ֖יו אֵינָ֥ם נִשְׁמָעִֽים:
17 The words of the wise are heard [when spoken] softly, more than the shout of a ruler of fools.		יזדִּבְרֵ֣י חֲכָמִ֔ים בְּנַ֖חַת נִשְׁמָעִ֑ים מִזַּֽעֲקַ֥ת מוֹשֵׁ֖ל בַּכְּסִילִֽים:
18 Wisdom is better than weapons, and one sinner destroys much good.		יחטוֹבָ֥ה חָכְמָ֖ה מִכְּלֵ֣י קְרָ֑ב וְחוֹטֶ֣א אֶחָ֔ד יְאַבֵּ֖ד טוֹבָ֥ה הַרְבֵּֽה:

Eclesiastés 9

(1) Por todo ello dediqué mi corazón a aclarar todo esto: que los justos, los sabios y sus obras están en mano de Dios. Ya sea amor u odio, el hombre no lo sabe. Todo esta ante ellos.

(2) Todas las cosas vienen igual a todos. Lo mismo les ocurre a los justos y a los impíos, a los buenos y a los malvados; a los puros y a los impuros; al que brinda sacrificios y al que no los ofrece; al recto y al pecador y al que jura (en vano) como al que respeta el juramento.

(3) Eso es un (grave) mal entre todo lo que ocurre bajo el sol, que un mismo acontecimiento les sucede a todos, que está lleno de maldad el corazón de los hijos de hombres y que la locura anida en su  corazón mientras viven hasta que sobrevenga la muerte.

(4) Para el que está reunido con los vivos hay esperanza porque un perro vivo vale más que un león muerto.

(5) Los vivos saben que morirán pero los muertos no saben nada, no tienen más galardón, porque (hasta) la memoria de ellos ya se ha olvidado.

(6) Han perecido con su amor, con su odio y con sus envidias y tampoco tendrán más porción en lo que se hace bajo el sol.

(7) Sigue tu camino, come tu pan con alegría y bebe tu vino con corazón alegre porque Dios ha aceptado ya tus obras.

(8) Sean tus ropas siempre blancas y no le falte ungüento a tu cabeza.

(9) Disfruta la vida con la mujer que amas todos los días de la vida de tu vanidad que Él te dio bajo el sol, porque es tu porción en la vida y en la labor en que te afanas bajo el sol.

(10) Haz todo lo que puedas hacer con todas tus fuerzas porque no hay obra, ni empresa, ni conocimiento, ni sabiduría en la tumba a la que te diriges.

(11) Me volví y vi bajo el sol que la carrera no es (siempre) para los veloces, ni la batalla para los fuertes, ni el pan para los sabios, ni las riquezas para los inteligentes, ni el favor para los capaces sino que el tiempo y la casualidad son para todo ellos.

(12) El hombre no conoce (de antemano) su tiempo. Como los peces que son atrapados en una red malévola y los pájaros caen en la trampa, así son prendidos los hijos de hombres en tiempos de aciegos, cuando ello le sobreviene de repente.

(13) Esto también he visto como (signo de la) sabiduría bajo el sol y me pareció grande:

(14) Había una pequeña ciudad y pocos hombres dentro de ella. Y vino un gran rey contra ella que la sitió y construyó contra ella grandes torres.

(15) Y se halló en ella a un hombre pobre pero sabio, que libró la ciudad por medio de su sabiduría. sin embargo, nadie volvió a acordarse de ese pobre hombre.

(16) Entonces me dije: “La sabiduría vale más que la fuerza, pero la sabiduría del pobre hombre es despechada y sus palabras no son escuchadas”.

(17)La palabras de los sabios dicha en quietud son más aceptables que los gritos de un príncipe entre encios.

(18) Vale más la sabiduría que las armas de guerra y un pecador destruye muchas cosas buenas.

Si ves la opresión a los probres y la violenta perversión de la justicia y de la rectitud en alguna región, no te alarmes porque sobre el alto, otro más alto vigila y sobre ellos, el Altísimo.

7If you see oppression of the poor and deprivation of justice and righteousness in the province, wonder not about the matter, for the Highest over the high waits, and there are higher ones over them.
