About the Month of Nisan / Sobre el Mes de Nisan
Nisan, the first month on Jewish calendar (according to the Torah), coincides with March-April on the civil calendar. The Torah calls it chodesh ha-aviv—the month of spring, as it marks the beginning of the spring months.
On the first day of Nisan in the year 2448 from creation (1313 BCE), two weeks before the Exodus, G‑d showed Moses the crescent new moon, instructing him regarding the setting of the Jewish calendar and the mitzvah of sanctifying the new month. “This month shall be for you the head of months, the first of the months of the year” (Exodus 12:2). This ushered in the first Jewish month and commenced the lunar calendar that Jews have been following ever since. It was the first mitzvah (“commandment”) given to the newly born nation of Israel, even before the exodus from Egypt.
Passover
It is in this month that we celebrate the eight-day holiday of Passover, from the 15th through the 22nd of Nissan. It commemorates the Jewish people’s miraculous redemption from slavery in Egypt, and the birth of the Jewish nation.

En el primer día de Nisan en el año 2448 desde su creación (1313 a. La dedicacion
Un año después del éxodo, en cada uno de los primeros 12 días de este mes, otro de los 12 príncipes de Israel trajo ofrendas para inaugurar el Mishkan, el santuario viajero que la gente había construido para Di-s. Hoy en día, en cada uno de estos días leemos la porción de la Torá que detalla los regalos que se trajeron ese día, así como una oración especial de Yehi Ratzon.
Un mes especial
Una mitzvá especial que se puede cumplir solo una vez al año, en cualquier momento durante el mes de Nisan, es recitar el berachah (“bendición” u oración) que se hace al ver un árbol frutal en flor. Muchas personas visitan los jardines botánicos durante este tiempo, para aprovechar la oportunidad de observar esta hermosa mitzvá.
En el Talmud se menciona que, según una tradición, los tres patriarcas del pueblo judío: Abraham (1948–2123 de la creación, 1813–1638 aC), Isaac (2048–2228 de la creación, 1713–1533 aC) y Jacob ( 2108–2255 desde su creación, 1653–1506 aC), todos nacieron y fallecieron en el mes de Nisan.

El ciclo lunar
El calendario judío está basado en ciclos lunares. Hacia el comienzo del ciclo, la Luna tiene el aspecto de una fina medialuna. Esa es la señal de que comenzó un nuevo mes judío. Luego, continúa creciendo hasta que alcanza su tamaño máximo, a la mitad del mes, y entonces comienza a disminuir hasta que ya no se la puede ver. | 18 In the first [month], on the fourteenth day of the month in the evening, you shall eat unleavened cakes, until the twenty first day of the month in the evening. | יחבָּֽרִאשֹׁ֡ן בְּאַרְבָּעָה֩ עָשָׂ֨ר י֤וֹם לַחֹ֨דֶשׁ֙ בָּעֶ֔רֶב תֹּֽאכְל֖וּ מַצֹּ֑ת עַ֠ד י֣וֹם הָֽאֶחָ֧ד וְעֶשְׂרִ֛ים לַחֹ֖דֶשׁ בָּעָֽרֶב: | |
| 19 For seven days, leavening shall not be found in your houses, for whoever eats leavening that soul shall be cut off from the community of Israel, both among the strangers and the native born of the land. | יטשִׁבְעַ֣ת יָמִ֔ים שְׂאֹ֕ר לֹ֥א יִמָּצֵ֖א בְּבָֽתֵּיכֶ֑ם כִּ֣י | כָּל־אֹכֵ֣ל מַחְמֶ֗צֶת וְנִכְרְתָ֞ה הַנֶּ֤פֶשׁ הַהִוא֙ מֵֽעֲדַ֣ת יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל בַּגֵּ֖ר וּבְאֶזְרַ֥ח הָאָֽרֶץ: | |
| 20 You shall not eat any leavening; throughout all your dwellings you shall eat unleavened cakes.” | ככָּל־מַחְמֶ֖צֶת לֹ֣א תֹאכֵ֑לוּ בְּכֹל֙ מֽוֹשְׁבֹ֣תֵיכֶ֔ם תֹּֽאכְל֖וּ מַצּֽוֹת: | |
| 21 Moses summoned all the elders of Israel and said to them, “Draw forth or buy for yourselves sheep for your families and slaughter the Passover sacrifice. | כאוַיִּקְרָ֥א משֶׁ֛ה לְכָל־זִקְנֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל וַיֹּ֣אמֶר אֲלֵהֶ֑ם מִֽשְׁכ֗וּ וּקְח֨וּ לָכֶ֥ם צֹ֛אן לְמִשְׁפְּחֹֽתֵיכֶ֖ם וְשַֽׁחֲט֥וּ הַפָּֽסַח: | |
| 22 And you shall take a bunch of hyssop and immerse [it] in the blood that is in the basin, and you shall extend to the lintel and to the two doorposts the blood that is in the basin, and you shall not go out, any man from the entrance of his house until morning. | כבוּלְקַחְתֶּ֞ם אֲגֻדַּ֣ת אֵז֗וֹב וּטְבַלְתֶּם֘ בַּדָּ֣ם אֲשֶׁר־בַּסַּף֒ וְהִגַּעְתֶּ֤ם אֶל־הַמַּשְׁקוֹף֙ וְאֶל־שְׁתֵּ֣י הַמְּזוּזֹ֔ת מִן־הַדָּ֖ם אֲשֶׁ֣ר בַּסָּ֑ף וְאַתֶּ֗ם לֹ֥א תֵֽצְא֛וּ אִ֥ישׁ מִפֶּֽתַח־בֵּית֖וֹ עַד־בֹּֽקֶר: | |
| 23 The Lord will pass to smite the Egyptians, and He will see the blood on the lintel and on the two doorposts, and the Lord will pass over the entrance, and He will not permit the destroyer to enter your houses to smite [you]. | כגוְעָבַ֣ר יְהֹוָה֘ לִנְגֹּ֣ף אֶת־מִצְרַ֒יִם֒ וְרָאָ֤ה אֶת־הַדָּם֙ עַל־הַמַּשְׁק֔וֹף וְעַ֖ל שְׁתֵּ֣י הַמְּזוּזֹ֑ת וּפָסַ֤ח יְהֹוָה֙ עַל־הַפֶּ֔תַח וְלֹ֤א יִתֵּן֙ הַמַּשְׁחִ֔ית לָבֹ֥א אֶל־בָּֽתֵּיכֶ֖ם לִנְגֹּֽף: | |
| 24 And you shall keep this matter as a statute for you and for your children forever. | כדוּשְׁמַרְתֶּ֖ם אֶת־הַדָּבָ֣ר הַזֶּ֑ה לְחָק־לְךָ֥ וּלְבָנֶ֖יךָ עַד־עוֹלָֽם: | |
| 25 And it shall come to pass when you enter the land that the Lord will give you, as He spoke, that you shall observe this service. | כהוְהָיָ֞ה כִּֽי־תָבֹ֣אוּ אֶל־הָאָ֗רֶץ אֲשֶׁ֨ר יִתֵּ֧ן יְהֹוָ֛ה לָכֶ֖ם כַּֽאֲשֶׁ֣ר דִּבֵּ֑ר וּשְׁמַרְתֶּ֖ם אֶת־הָֽעֲבֹדָ֥ה הַזֹּֽאת: | |
| 26 And it will come to pass if your children say to you, What is this service to you? | כווְהָיָ֕ה כִּי־יֹֽאמְר֥וּ אֲלֵיכֶ֖ם בְּנֵיכֶ֑ם מָ֛ה הָֽעֲבֹדָ֥ה הַזֹּ֖את לָכֶֽם: | |
| 27 you shall say, It is a Passover sacrifice to the Lord, for He passed over the houses of the children of Israel in Egypt when He smote the Egyptians, and He saved our houses. And the people kneeled and prostrated themselves. | כזוַֽאֲמַרְתֶּ֡ם זֶֽבַח־פֶּ֨סַח ה֜וּא לַֽיהֹוָ֗ה אֲשֶׁ֣ר פָּ֠סַ֠ח עַל־בָּתֵּ֤י בְנֵֽי־יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ בְּמִצְרַ֔יִם בְּנָגְפּ֥וֹ אֶת־מִצְרַ֖יִם וְאֶת־בָּתֵּ֣ינוּ הִצִּ֑יל וַיִּקֹּ֥ד הָעָ֖ם וַיִּשְׁתַּֽחֲוֽוּ: | |
| 28 So the children of Israel went and did; as the Lord commanded Moses and Aaron, so they did. | כחוַיֵּֽלְכ֥וּ וַיַּֽעֲשׂ֖וּ בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל כַּֽאֲשֶׁ֨ר צִוָּ֧ה יְהֹוָ֛ה אֶת־משֶׁ֥ה וְאַֽהֲרֹ֖ן כֵּ֥ן עָשֽׂוּ: | |

| 36 The Lord gave the people favor in the eyes of the Egyptians, and they lent them, and they emptied out Egypt. | לווַֽיהֹוָ֞ה נָתַ֨ן אֶת־חֵ֥ן הָעָ֛ם בְּעֵינֵ֥י מִצְרַ֖יִם וַיַּשְׁאִל֑וּם וַיְנַצְּל֖וּ אֶת־מִצְרָֽיִם: | |
| 37 The children of Israel journeyed from Rameses to Succoth, about six hundred thousand on foot, the men, besides the young children. | לזוַיִּסְע֧וּ בְנֵֽי־יִשְׂרָאֵ֛ל מֵֽרַעְמְסֵ֖ס סֻכֹּ֑תָה כְּשֵֽׁשׁ־מֵא֨וֹת אֶ֧לֶף רַגְלִ֛י הַגְּבָרִ֖ים לְבַד מִטָּֽף: | |
| 38 And also, a great mixed multitude went up with them, and flocks and cattle, very much livestock. | לחוְגַם־עֵ֥רֶב רַ֖ב עָלָ֣ה אִתָּ֑ם וְצֹ֣אן וּבָקָ֔ר מִקְנֶ֖ה כָּבֵ֥ד מְאֹֽד: | |
| 39 They baked the dough that they had taken out of Egypt as unleavened cakes, for it had not leavened, for they were driven out of Egypt, and they could not tarry, and also, they had not made provisions for themselves. | לטוַיֹּאפ֨וּ אֶת־הַבָּצֵ֜ק אֲשֶׁ֨ר הוֹצִ֧יאוּ מִמִּצְרַ֛יִם עֻגֹ֥ת מַצּ֖וֹת כִּ֣י לֹ֣א חָמֵ֑ץ כִּי־גֹֽרְשׁ֣וּ מִמִּצְרַ֗יִם וְלֹ֤א יָֽכְלוּ֙ לְהִתְמַהְמֵ֔הַּ וְגַם־צֵדָ֖ה לֹֽא־עָשׂ֥וּ לָהֶֽם: | |
| 40 And the habitation of the children of Israel, that they dwelled in Egypt, was four hundred and thirty years. | מוּמוֹשַׁב֙ בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל אֲשֶׁ֥ר יָֽשְׁב֖וּ בְּמִצְרָ֑יִם שְׁלשִׁ֣ים שָׁנָ֔ה וְאַרְבַּ֥ע מֵא֖וֹת שָׁנָֽה: | |
| 41 It came to pass at the end of four hundred and thirty years, and it came to pass in that very day, that all the legions of the Lord went out of the land of Egypt. | מאוַיְהִ֗י מִקֵּץ֙ שְׁלשִׁ֣ים שָׁנָ֔ה וְאַרְבַּ֥ע מֵא֖וֹת שָׁנָ֑ה וַיְהִ֗י בְּעֶ֨צֶם֙ הַיּ֣וֹם הַזֶּ֔ה יָֽצְא֛וּ כָּל־צִבְא֥וֹת יְהֹוָ֖ה מֵאֶ֥רֶץ מִצְרָֽיִם: | |
| 42 It is a night of anticipation for the Lord, to take them out of the land of Egypt; this night is the Lord’s, guarding all the children of Israel throughout their generations. | מבלֵ֣יל שִׁמֻּרִ֥ים הוּא֙ לַֽיהֹוָ֔ה לְהֽוֹצִיאָ֖ם מֵאֶ֣רֶץ מִצְרָ֑יִם הֽוּא־הַלַּ֤יְלָה הַזֶּה֙ לַֽיהֹוָ֔ה שִׁמֻּרִ֛ים לְכָל־בְּנֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל לְדֹֽרֹתָֽם: | |
| 43 The Lord said to Moses and Aaron, “This is the statute of the Passover sacrifice: No estranged one may partake of it. | מגוַיֹּ֤אמֶר יְהֹוָה֙ אֶל־משֶׁ֣ה וְאַֽהֲרֹ֔ן זֹ֖את חֻקַּ֣ת הַפָּ֑סַח כָּל־בֶּן־נֵכָ֖ר לֹא־יֹ֥אכַל בּֽוֹ: | |
| 44 And every man’s slave, purchased for his money you shall circumcise him; then he will be permitted to partake of it. | מדוְכָל־עֶ֥בֶד אִ֖ישׁ מִקְנַת־כָּ֑סֶף וּמַלְתָּ֣ה אֹת֔וֹ אָ֖ז יֹ֥אכַל בּֽוֹ: | |
| 45 A sojourner or a hired hand may not partake of it. | מהתּוֹשָׁ֥ב וְשָׂכִ֖יר לֹא־יֹ֥אכַל בּֽוֹ: | |
| 46It must be eaten in one house; you shall not take any of the meat out of the house to the outside, neither shall you break any of its bones. | מובְּבַ֤יִת אֶחָד֙ יֵֽאָכֵ֔ל לֹֽא־תוֹצִ֧יא מִן־הַבַּ֛יִת מִן־הַבָּשָׂ֖ר ח֑וּצָה וְעֶ֖צֶם לֹ֥א תִשְׁבְּרוּ־בֽוֹ: | |
| 47 The entire community of Israel shall make it. | מזכָּל־עֲדַ֥ת יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל יַֽעֲשׂ֥וּ אֹתֽוֹ: | |
| 48 And should a proselyte reside with you, he shall make a Passover sacrifice to the Lord. All his males shall be circumcised, and then he may approach to make it, and he will be like the native of the land, but no uncircumcised male may partake of it. | מחוְכִֽי־יָג֨וּר אִתְּךָ֜ גֵּ֗ר וְעָ֣שָׂה פֶ֘סַח֘ לַֽיהֹוָה֒ הִמּ֧וֹל ל֣וֹ כָל־זָכָ֗ר וְאָז֙ יִקְרַ֣ב לַֽעֲשׂת֔וֹ וְהָיָ֖ה כְּאֶזְרַ֣ח הָאָ֑רֶץ וְכָל־עָרֵ֖ל לֹא־יֹ֥אכַל בּֽוֹ: | |
| 49 There shall be one law for the native and for the stranger who resides in your midst.” | מטתּוֹרָ֣ה אַחַ֔ת יִֽהְיֶ֖ה לָֽאֶזְרָ֑ח וְלַגֵּ֖ר הַגָּ֥ר בְּתֽוֹכְכֶֽם: | |
| 50 All the children of Israel did; as the Lord had commanded Moses and Aaron, so they did. | נוַיַּֽעֲשׂ֖וּ כָּל־בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל כַּֽאֲשֶׁ֨ר צִוָּ֧ה יְהֹוָ֛ה אֶת־משֶׁ֥ה וְאֶת־אַֽהֲרֹ֖ן כֵּ֥ן עָשֽׂוּ: | |
| 51 It came to pass on that very day, that the Lord took the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt with their legions. | נאוַיְהִ֕י בְּעֶ֖צֶם הַיּ֣וֹם הַזֶּ֑ה הוֹצִ֨יא יְהֹוָ֜ה אֶת־בְּנֵ֧י יִשְׂרָאֵ֛ל מֵאֶ֥רֶץ מִצְרַ֖יִם עַל־צִבְאֹתָֽם: |
Éxodo 12
(1) Y le dijo el Eterno a Moisés y a Aarón en tierra de Egipto:
(2) “Que sea este mes para vosotros comeinzo de mes. Que sea para vosotros el primer mes del año.
(3) Decid a toda la congregación de Israel : El día décimo de este mes, tomaréis un cordero por cada casa paterna, o sea un cordero por cada familia.
(4) Y si fuera pequeña la familia para el cordero, lo repartirás con la familia vecina a su casa, segun el número de sus almas, calculando la res según lo que cada cual pueda comer.
(5) El cordero (o cabrito) será puro (sin defecto), macho, de un año de edad. Lo tomaréis de los carneros y de las cabras.
(6) Y será guardado por vosotros hasta el día catorce de este mes, y lo inmolará toda la comunidad de Israel al atardecer.
(7) Tomarás la sangre y la pondrán sobre las dos jambas y sobre el dintel de las casas donde lo comerán.
(8) Comerán la carne esa noche, asada al fuego, con pan ázimo (matzot) e hierbas amargas (merorim).
(9) No lo comeréis crudo, ni cocido al agua, sino que lo comeréis asado al fuego, con su cabeza, con sus patas y con sus extrañas.
(10) Y no haréis sobrar nada de él hasta la mañana, pues si queda algo lo quemaréis en el fuego mañana.
(11) y así lo comeréis: ceñido vuestros lomos, con los pies calzados y la vara en vuestras manos, y lo comeréis apresuradamente. Es la Pascua (Pésaj), (“paso”) para Mí el Eterno,
(12) pues pasaré por la tierra de Egipto esa noche y heriré a todo primogénito en la tierra de Egipto, que sea hombre o animal, y castigaré incluso a todos los dioses de Egipto. Yo, el Eterno.
(13) Y la sangre que mostraréis servirá por señal para que Yo, al verla pase por alto vuestras casas y así no sufrirá la plaga exterminadora con que golpearé a Egipto.
(14) Y conservaréis la memoria de ese día y lo festejaréis por festividad para el Eterno por todas vuestras generaciones.
(15) Durante siete días comeréis pan ázimo (sin levadura). Ya en el día primero suprimiréis la levadura en vuestras casas. todo el que comiera alimento leudado durante esos siete días será borrado de Israel.
(16) Y el día primero, tendréis santa convocación que se repitará en el día séptimo. Ningún trabajo haréis esos días, salvo lo concerniente a la comida. Sólo eso será hecho por vosotros.
(17) Y guardaréis el pan ázimo porque ese mismo día Yo sacaré a vuestras huestes de la tierra de Egipto, y guardaréis ese día por todas vuestras generaciones como ley perpetua.
(18) En el mes primero, el día catorce por al tarde, comeréis pan ázimo hasta el día primero, el día catorce por al tarde, comeréis pan ázimo hasta el día veintiuno a la tarde.
(19) Durante siete días, no se hallará levadura en vuestras casas porque el alma de quien comiera alimento leudado será extirpado de la congregación de Israel, tanto el forastero como el natural de la tierra.
(20) No comeréis nada leudado. En todo los lugares donde estáis comeréis pan ázimo”
(21) Y llamó Moisés a todos los ancianos de Israel y les dijo: “Sacaréis del rebaño corderos según vuestras familias y los sacrificaréis para la Pascua.
(22) Y tomaréis un manojo de isopo, lo mojaréis en la sangre que verteréis en un vaso y salpicaréis esa sangre en el dintel y las dos jambas de las puertas de vuestras casas, de la cuales no saldréis hasta mañana.
(23) Y pasará el Eterno para exterminar a los primogénitos de los egipcios y salteará las casas cuyas puertas estarán manchadas con la sangre.
(24) Y guardaréis ese rito a perpetuidad, para vosotros y para vuestros hijos.
(25) Obsevaréis ese rito como ley cuando lleguéis a la tierra que os dará el Eterno.
(26) Y cuando os pegunten vuestros hijos: ¿Qué significa eso para vosotros?,
(27) les responderéis: sacrificio de pascua es para el Eterno, que pasó de largo por las casas de los hijos de Israel en Egipto, quedando libradas nuestras casas”. Y se prosternó el pueblo en reverencia.
(28) y los hijos de Israel hicieron como el Eterno les había ordenado a Moisés y Aarón.
(29) Y a medianoche el Eterno hirió a todo primogénito en la tierra de Egipto, desde el primogénito del faraón que estaba en su trono hasta los primogénitos de los presos que estaban en las cárceles y todo primerizo de animal.
(30) Y se levanto el faraón de noche, también sus siervos y todo Egipto, con grandes alaridos de dolor ya que no había casa donde no hubiera un muerto.
(31) Y el faraón llamo a Moisés a a Aarón de noche y les dijo: “Levántate, salid de entre mi pueblo con todos los hijos de Israel e idos, servid al Eterno como pedistéis.
(32) Llevad también vuestras majadas y vuestros vacunos y bendecidme tambien a mí”.
(33) Los egipcios urgían a los hebreos para que se fueran presto porque decían: “Todos nosotros moriremos”.
(34) Y el pueblo de Israel llevó su masa antes de que se fermentara y envolvieron en sus mantos las artesas que al contenían, se las echaron al hombro.
(35) Y los hijos de Israel cumplieron lo ordenado por el Eterno y antes de irse, pidieron a los egipcios en préstamo objetos de plata y de oro y también vestidos.
(36) Y el eterno favoreció al pueblo de Israel a los ojos de los egipcios que les dieron cuanto les pidieron y así fueron despojados.
(37) Y viajaron los hijos de Israel de Rameses a Sucot, unos seiscientos mil hombres en total, sin contar los niños.
(38) Y también mucha gente (presumiblemente conversos) subió con ellos, junto con muchísimos ovinos y vacunos.
(39) y cocieron la masa que habían llevado de Egipto y que en el apuro no dejaron fermentar. Ninguna otra cosa habían podido preparar.
(40) La permanencia de los hijos de Israel en Egipto habái durado cuatrocientos años,
(41) al cabo de los cuales, ese día, salieron todas las huestes del eterno de la tierra de Egipto.
(42) Noche de vigilia fue para el Eterno para sacarlos de la tierra de Egipto, y es noche de vigilia para todos los hijos de Israel a través de sus generaciones.
(43) Y el Eterno les dijo a Moisés y Aarón: “Ésta es ley de la Pascua: Ningún extranjero comerá de ella.
(44) Para que vuestro siervo pueda comer de ella, deberéis circuncidarlo.
(45) El forastero y el jornalero no comerán.
(46) Se comerá todo en cada casa y no sacaréis fuera de ella nada de sus carnes ni quebraréis hueso alguno.
(47) Toda la congregación de Israel hará la Pascua.
(48) Y cuando viviera con vosotros un extranjero que quisiera comer la Pascua del Eterno, debería ser circuncidado, y entonces podría comerla como si fuera uno de vuestro pueblo, ya que ningún incircunciso podrá comer la Pascua.
(49) Ley única será para el nativo y para el extranjero que vive entre nosotros”.
(50) Y cumplieron todos los hijos de Israel lo que el Eterno había ordenado a Moisés y a Aarón.
(51) Y ese día, el Eterno libró a los hijos de Israel de la tierra de Egipto, por sus huestes.
