Kohelet – Ecclesiastes – Chapter 4

1 But I returned and saw all the oppressed who are made [so] under the sun, and behold, the tears of the oppressed, and they have no consoler, and from the hand of their oppressors there is power, but they have no consoler.		אוְשַׁ֣בְתִּֽי אֲנִ֗י וָֽאֶרְאֶה֙ אֶת־כָּל־הָ֣עֲשׁוּקִ֔ים אֲשֶׁ֥ר נַֽעֲשִׂ֖ים תַּ֣חַת הַשָּׁ֑מֶשׁ וְהִנֵּ֣ה | דִּמְעַ֣ת הָֽעֲשׁוּקִ֗ים וְאֵ֤ין לָהֶם֙ מְנַחֵ֔ם וּמִיַּ֤ד עֹֽשְׁקֵיהֶם֙ כֹּ֔חַ וְאֵ֥ין לָהֶ֖ם מְנַחֵֽם:
2 And I praise the dead who have already died, more than the living who are still alive.		בוְשַׁבֵּ֧חַ אֲנִ֛י אֶת־הַמֵּתִ֖ים שֶׁכְּבָ֣ר מֵ֑תוּ מִן־הַ֣חַיִּ֔ים אֲשֶׁ֛ר הֵ֥מָּה חַיִּ֖ים עֲדֶֽנָה:
3 And better than both of them is he who has not yet been, who has not seen the evil work that is done under the sun.		גוְטוֹב֙ מִשְּׁנֵיהֶ֔ם אֵ֥ת אֲשֶׁר־עֲדֶ֖ן לֹ֣א הָיָ֑ה אֲשֶׁ֤ר לֹֽא־רָאָה֙ אֶת־הַמַּֽעֲשֶׂ֣ה הָרָ֔ע אֲשֶׁ֥ר נַֽעֲשָׂ֖ה תַּ֥חַת הַשָּֽׁמֶשׁ:
4 And I saw all the toil and all the excellence of work, which is a man’s envy of his friend; this too is vanity and frustration.		דוְרָאִ֨יתִֽי אֲנִ֜י אֶת־כָּל־עָמָ֗ל וְאֵת֙ כָּל־כִּשְׁר֣וֹן הַֽמַּֽעֲשֶׂ֔ה כִּ֛י הִ֥יא קִנְאַת־אִ֖ישׁ מֵֽרֵעֵ֑הוּ גַּם־זֶ֥ה הֶ֖בֶל וּרְע֥וּת רֽוּחַ:
5 The fool folds his hands and eats his own flesh.		ההַכְּסִיל֙ חֹבֵ֣ק אֶת־יָדָ֔י ו וְאֹכֵ֖ל אֶת־בְּשָׂרֽוֹ:
6 Better is a handful of ease than two handfuls of toil and frustration.		וט֕וֹב מְלֹ֥א כַ֖ף נָ֑חַת מִמְּלֹ֥א חָפְנַ֛יִם עָמָ֖ל וּרְע֥וּת רֽוּחַ:
7 And I returned and saw vanity under the sun.		זוְשַׁ֧בְתִּי אֲנִ֛י וָֽאֶרְאֶ֥ה הֶ֖בֶל תַּ֥חַת הַשָּֽׁמֶשׁ:
8 There is one, and there is no second; yea, he has neither son nor brother, and there is no end to all his toil; neither is his eye sated from wealth. Now for whom do I toil and deprive my soul of pleasure? This too is vanity and an unhappy affair.		חיֵ֣שׁ אֶחָד֩ וְאֵ֨ין שֵׁנִ֜י גַּ֣ם בֵּ֧ן וָאָ֣ח אֵֽין־ל֗ וֹ וְאֵ֥ין קֵץ֙ לְכָל־עֲמָל֔וֹ גַּם־עֵינ֖ו (כתיב עֵינ֖יו) לֹֽא־תִשְׂבַּ֣ע עֹ֑שֶׁר וּלְמִ֣י | אֲנִ֣י עָמֵ֗ל וּמְחַסֵּ֤ר אֶת־נַפְשִׁי֙ מִטּוֹבָ֔ה גַּם־זֶ֥ה הֶ֛בֶל וְעִנְיַ֥ן רָ֖ע הֽוּא:
9 Two are better than one, since they have good reward for their toil.		טטוֹבִ֥ים הַשְּׁנַ֖יִם מִן־הָֽאֶחָ֑ד אֲשֶׁ֧ר יֵֽשׁ־לָהֶ֛ם שָׂכָ֥ר ט֖וֹב בַּֽעֲמָלָֽם:
10 For if they fall, one will lift up his friend, but woe to the one who falls and has no second one to lift him up.		יכִּ֣י אִם־יִפֹּ֔לוּ הָֽאֶחָ֖ד יָקִ֣ים אֶת־חֲבֵר֑ וֹ וְאִ֣יל֗וֹ הָֽאֶחָד֙ שֶׁיִּפֹּ֔ל וְאֵ֥ין שֵׁנִ֖י לַֽהֲקִימֽוֹ:
11 Moreover, if two lie down, they will have warmth, but how will one have warmth?		יאגַּ֛ם אִם־יִשְׁכְּב֥וּ שְׁנַ֖יִם וְחַ֣ם לָהֶ֑ם וּלְאֶחָ֖ד אֵ֥יךְ יֵחָֽם:
12 And if a man prevails against the one, the two will stand against him, and a three- stranded cord will not quickly be broken.		יבוְאִֽם־יִתְקְפוֹ֙ הָֽאֶחָ֔ד הַשְּׁנַ֖יִם יַֽעַמְד֣וּ נֶגְדּ֑וֹ וְהַחוּט֙ הַֽמְשֻׁלָּ֔שׁ לֹ֥א בִמְהֵרָ֖ה יִנָּתֵֽק:
13 Better a poor and wise child than an old and foolish king, who no longer knows to receive admonition.		יגט֛וֹב יֶ֥לֶד מִסְכֵּ֖ן וְחָכָ֑ם מִמֶּ֤לֶךְ זָקֵן֙ וּכְסִ֔יל אֲשֶׁ֛ר לֹֽא־יָדַ֥ע לְהִזָּהֵ֖ר עֽוֹד:
14 For out of the prison he has come to reign, for even in his kingdom, he becomes humble.		ידכִּֽי־מִבֵּ֥ית הָֽסוּרִ֖ים יָצָ֣א לִמְלֹ֑ךְ כִּ֛י גַּ֥ם בְּמַלְכוּת֖וֹ נוֹלַ֥ד רָֽשׁ:
15 I saw all the living who walk under the sun, with the second child who will rise in his stead.		טורָאִ֨יתִי֙ אֶת־כָּל־הַ֣חַיִּ֔ים הַֽמְהַלְּכִ֖ים תַּ֣חַת הַשָּׁ֑מֶשׁ עִ֤ם הַיֶּ֣לֶד הַשֵּׁנִ֔י אֲשֶׁ֥ר יַֽעֲמֹ֖ד תַּחְתָּֽיו:
16 There is no end to all the people, to all that were before them; also the last ones will not rejoice with him, for this too is vanity and frustration.		טזאֵֽין־קֵ֣ץ לְכָל־הָעָ֗ם לְכֹ֤ל אֲשֶׁר־הָיָה֙ לִפְנֵיהֶ֔ם גַּ֥ם הָאַֽחֲרוֹנִ֖ים לֹ֣א יִשְׂמְחוּ־ב֑וֹ כִּֽי־גַם־זֶ֥ה הֶ֖בֶל וְרַעְי֥וֹן רֽוּחַ:
17 Watch your feet when you go to the House of God, and be ready to obey rather than fools should give sacrifice, for they know not that they do evil.		יזשְׁמ֣וֹר רַגְלְךָ֗ (כתיב רגליך) כַּֽאֲשֶׁ֤ר תֵּלֵךְ֙ אֶל־בֵּ֣ית הָֽאֱלֹהִ֔ים וְקָר֣וֹב לִשְׁמֹ֔עַ מִתֵּ֥ת הַכְּסִילִ֖ים זָ֑בַח כִּֽי־אֵינָ֥ם יֽוֹדְעִ֖ים לַֽעֲשׂ֥וֹת רָֽע:

ECLESIASTÉS 4

(1) Pero me volví y consideré todas las opresiones que se cometen bajo el sol y he aquí las lagrimas de los oprimidos que no tienen quien los consuele y del lado de los opresores la fuerza bruta, sin tener (aquellos) quien los consuele.

(2) Entonces alabé a los que ya murieron más que a los que todavía viven,

(3) y más dichoso que ambos es el que todavía no ha sido, pues no ha visto el mal que se hace bajo el sol.

(4) Luego consideré que todo trabajo y toda obra afortunada ocasiona la envidia del prójimo. Esto también es vanidad y correr en pos del viento.

(5) El necio cruza sus manos y come su propia carne.

(6) Mejor es un puñado de tranquilidad que ambas manos agitadas en trabajar y correr contra el viento.

(7) Luego me volví y vi la vanidad bajo el sol.

(8) Hay quien está solos, sin nadie quien lo acompañe, que no tiene hijos ni hermanos y sin embargo trabaja sin cesar, sin que su ojo se satisfaga con las riquezas (obtenidas). ¿Para qué pues, me afano y me privo de placeres? Eso es también vanidad, un trabajo desafortunadamente inútil.

(9) Dos pueden más que uno. Así es mayor la recompensa por la labor que se hace.

(10) Si uno cae, el otro levantará al compañero, pero ¡ay del que esta solo cuando cae! No tiene quien lo levante.

(11) Y si dos se acuestan juntos, se calientan entre sí, pero ¿cómo puede uno calentarse solo?

(12) Y si un hombre prevalece contra el que esta solo, dos le resistirán y la cuerda triple no se rompe fácilmente.

(13) Más vale un joven pobre y sabio que un rey viejo y necio, que no sabe recibir mas admoniciones.

(14) Porque de la prisión ha venido a reinar, porque aun en su reino, se vuelve humilde

(15) Vi a todos los vivos que caminan bajo el sol, con el segundo joven que se levantará en su lugar.

(16) No hay fin para toda la gente, para todos los que estaban antes que ellos; También los últimos no se alegrarán con él, porque esto también es vanidad y frustración

(17) Pon atención a tu pie cuando entras a la Casa de Dios y disponte a escuchar. Es mejor (eso) que los sacrificios que brindan los insensatos, porque no saben que hacen mal.

Kohelet – Ecclesiastes – Chapter 5

1 Be not rash with your mouth, and let your heart not be hasty to utter a word before God, for God is in heaven, and you are on the earth; therefore, let your words be few.		אאַל־תְּבַהֵ֨ל עַל־פִּ֜יךָ וְלִבְּךָ֧ אַל־יְמַהֵ֛ר לְהוֹצִ֥יא דָבָ֖ר לִפְנֵ֣י הָֽאֱלֹהִ֑ים כִּ֣י הָֽאֱלֹהִ֤ים בַּשָּׁמַ֨יִם֙ וְאַתָּ֣ה עַל־הָאָ֔רֶץ עַֽל־כֵּ֛ן יִֽהְי֥וּ דְבָרֶ֖יךָ מְעַטִּֽים:
2 For a dream comes with much concern, and the voice of the fool with many words.		בכִּ֛י בָּ֥א הַֽחֲל֖וֹם בְּרֹ֣ב עִנְיָ֑ן וְק֥וֹל כְּסִ֖יל בְּרֹ֥ב דְּבָרִֽים:
3 When you pronounce a vow to God, do not delay to pay, for He has no pleasure in fools; that which you vow, pay.		גכַּֽאֲשֶׁר֩ תִּדֹּ֨ר נֶ֜דֶר לֵֽאלֹהִ֗ים אַל־תְּאַחֵר֙ לְשַׁלְּמ֔וֹ כִּ֛י אֵ֥ין חֵ֖פֶץ בַּכְּסִילִ֑ים אֵ֥ת אֲשֶׁר־תִּדֹּ֖ר שַׁלֵּֽם:
4 It is better that you vow not, than that you vow and do not pay it.		דט֖וֹב אֲשֶׁ֣ר לֹֽא־תִדֹּ֑ר מִשֶּׁתִּדּ֖וֹר וְלֹ֥א תְשַׁלֵּֽם:
5 Do not allow your mouth to cause sin to your flesh, and say not before the messenger that it is an error; why should God be wroth with your voice and destroy the work of your hands?		האַל־תִּתֵּ֤ן אֶת־פִּ֨יךָ֙ לַֽחֲטִ֣יא אֶת־בְּשָׂרֶ֔ךָ וְאַל־תֹּאמַר֙ לִפְנֵ֣י הַמַּלְאָ֔ךְ כִּ֥י שְׁגָגָ֖ה הִ֑יא לָ֣מָּה יִקְצֹ֤ף הָֽאֱלֹהִים֙ עַל־קוֹלֶ֔ךָ וְחִבֵּ֖ל אֶת־מַֽעֲשֵׂ֥ה יָדֶֽיךָ:
6 For despite many dreams and vanities and many words, only fear God.		וכִּ֣י בְרֹ֤ב חֲלֹמוֹת֙ וַֽהֲבָלִ֔ים וּדְבָרִ֖ים הַרְבֵּ֑ה כִּ֥י אֶת־הָֽאֱלֹהִ֖ים יְרָֽא:
7 If you see oppression of the poor and deprivation of justice and righteousness in the province, wonder not about the matter, for the Highest over the high waits, and there are higher ones over them.		זאִם־עֹ֣שֶׁק רָ֠שׁ וְגֵ֨זֶל מִשְׁפָּ֤ט וָצֶ֨דֶק֙ תִּרְאֶ֣ה בַמְּדִינָ֔ה אַל־תִּתְמַ֖הּ עַל־הַחֵ֑פֶץ כִּ֣י גָבֹ֜הַּ מֵעַ֤ל גָּבֹ֨הַּ֙ שֹׁמֵ֔ר וּגְבֹהִ֖ים עֲלֵיהֶֽם:
8 And the loftiness of the earth is in everything; even the King is subservient to the field.		חוְיִתְר֥וֹן אֶ֖רֶץ בַּכֹּ֣ל ה֑וּא (כתיב ה֑יּא) מֶ֥לֶךְ לְשָׂדֶ֖ה נֶֽעֱבָֽד:
9 Whoever loves silver will not be sated with silver, and he who loves a multitude without increase-this too is vanity.		טאֹהֵ֥ב כֶּ֨סֶף֙ לֹֽא־יִשְׂבַּ֣ע כֶּ֔סֶף וּמִֽי־אֹהֵ֥ב בֶּֽהָמ֖וֹן לֹ֣א תְבוּאָ֑ה גַּם־זֶ֖ה הָֽבֶל:
10With the increase of good, its eaters increase, and what is the advantage to its Master, except seeing [with] His eyes?		יבִּרְבוֹת֙ הַטּוֹבָ֔ה רַבּ֖וּ אֽוֹכְלֶ֑יהָ וּמַה־כִּשְׁרוֹן֙ לִבְעָלֶ֔יהָ כִּ֖י אִם־רְא֥וּת (כתיב רְא֥יּת) עֵינָֽיו:
11 The sleep of the laborer is sweet, whether he eat little or much, but the satiety of the rich does not allow him to sleep.		יאמְתוּקָה֙ שְׁנַ֣ת הָֽעֹבֵ֔ד אִם־מְעַ֥ט וְאִם־הַרְבֵּ֖ה יֹאכֵ֑ל וְהַשָּׂבָע֙ לֶֽעָשִׁ֔יר אֵינֶ֛נּוּ מַנִּ֥יחַֽ ל֖וֹ לִישֽׁוֹן:
12 There is a grievous evil that I saw under the sun; riches kept by their owner for his harm.		יביֵשׁ רָעָ֣ה חוֹלָ֔ה רָאִ֖יתִי תַּ֣חַת הַשָּׁ֑מֶשׁ עֹ֛שֶׁר שָׁמ֥וּר לִבְעָלָ֖יו לְרָֽעָתֽוֹ:
13 And those riches are lost through an evil design, and he will beget a son who will have nothing in his hand.		יגוְאָבַ֛ד הָעֹ֥שֶׁר הַה֖וּא בְּעִנְיַ֣ן רָ֑ע וְהוֹלִ֣יד בֵּ֔ן וְאֵ֥ין בְּיָד֖ וֹ מְאֽוּמָה:
14 As he left his mother’s womb, naked shall he return to go as he came, and he will carry nothing with his toil, that he will take in his hand.		ידכַּֽאֲשֶׁ֤ר יָצָא֙ מִבֶּ֣טֶן אִמּ֔וֹ עָר֛וֹם יָשׁ֥וּב לָלֶ֖כֶת כְּשֶׁבָּ֑א וּמְא֨וּמָה֙ לֹֽא־יִשָּׂ֣א בַֽעֲמָל֔וֹ שֶׁיֹּלֵ֖ךְ בְּיָדֽוֹ:
15 And this too is a grievous evil, that just as it came so shall it go, and what advantage does he have that he toil for the wind?		טווְגַם־זֹה֙ רָעָ֣ה חוֹלָ֔ה כָּל־עֻמַּ֥ת שֶׁבָּ֖א כֵּ֣ן יֵלֵ֑ךְ וּמַה־יִּתְר֣וֹן ל֔וֹ שֶֽׁיַּֽעֲמֹ֖ל לָרֽוּחַ:
16 Also all his days he eats in the dark, and he has much vexation and sickness and wrath.		טזגַּ֥ם כָּל־יָמָ֖יו בַּחֹ֣שֶׁךְ יֹאכֵ֑ל וְכָעַ֥ס הַרְבֵּ֖ה וְחָלְי֥וֹ וָקָֽצֶף:
17 Behold what I saw; it is good, yea, it is beautiful, to eat and drink and to experience goodness with all his toil that he toils under the sun, the number of the days of his life that God gave him, for that is his portion.		יזהִנֵּ֞ה אֲשֶׁר־רָאִ֣יתִי אָ֗נִי ט֣וֹב אֲשֶׁר־יָפֶ֣ה לֶֽאֱכ֣וֹל־וְ֠לִשְׁתּ֠וֹת וְלִרְא֨וֹת טוֹבָ֜ה בְּכָל־עֲמָל֣וֹ | שֶׁיַּֽעֲמֹ֣ל תַּֽחַת־הַשֶּׁ֗מֶשׁ מִסְפַּ֧ר יְמֵֽי־חַיָּ֛ו אֲשֶׁר־נָֽתַן־ל֥וֹ הָֽאֱלֹהִ֖ים כִּי־ה֥וּא חֶלְקֽוֹ:
18 Also every man whom God has given riches and property and has given him power to eat thereof and to take his portion and to rejoice with his toil; that is a gift of God.		יחגַּ֣ם כָּֽל־הָֽאָדָ֡ם אֲשֶׁ֣ר נָֽתַן־ל֣וֹ הָֽאֱלֹהִים֩ עֹ֨שֶׁר וּנְכָסִ֜ים וְהִשְׁלִיט֨וֹ לֶֽאֱכֹ֤ל מִמֶּ֨נּ וּ֙ וְלָשֵׂ֣את אֶת־חֶלְק֔וֹ וְלִשְׂמֹ֖חַ בַּֽעֲמָל֑וֹ זֹ֕ה מַתַּ֥ת אֱלֹהִ֖ים הִֽיא:
19 For let him remember that the days of his life are not many, for God is testimony of the joy of his heart.		יטכִּי לֹ֣א הַרְבֵּ֔ה יִזְכֹּ֖ר אֶת־יְמֵ֣י חַיָּ֑יו כִּ֧י הָֽאֱלֹהִ֛ים מַֽעֲנֶ֖ה בְּשִׂמְחַ֥ת לִבּֽוֹ:

ECLESIASTÉS 5

(1) No seas precipitado con tu boca y que no se apresure tu corazón en pronunciar palabra delante de Dios, porque Dios está en el cielo y tú sobre la tierra. Sean pues pocas tus palabras.

(2) Por cuanto los sueños vienen con la multitud de ocupaciones y la voz del insensato con la multitud de palabras.

(3) Cuando hagas un voto a Dios, no demores en cumplir porque Él no se complace en los insensatos. Cumple pues lo que has prometido.

(4) Mejor es que no jures antes de que jures y no cumplas.

(5) No dejes que tu boca haga pecar a tu carne y no digas luego ante el mensajero que fue un error, ya que ¿por qué ha de airarse Dios por tu voz y destruir la obra de tus manos?

(6) Por la multitud de sueños y de vanidades hay muchas palabras, pero teme tú a Dios.

(7) Si ves la opresión a los pobres y la violenta peversión de la justicia y de la rectitud en alguna región, no te alarmes porque sobre el alto, otro más alto vigila y sobre ellos el Altísimo.

(8) La tierra tiene ventajas sobre todo lo demás. El mismo rey depende del campo.

(9) El que ama el dinero nunca se saciará del dinero, ni el que ama la abundancia se satisfará con su incremento. Eso también es vanidad

(10) Cuando aumentan los bienes, aumentan los que los comen y ¿qué ventaja hay para el propietario, aparte de que los mira con sus ojos?

(11) Dulce es el sueño del hombre trabajador, ya sea que coma mucho o coma poco, pero la saciedad del rico no le deja dormir tranquilo.

(12) Hay grave mal que he visto bajo el sol, es decir; las riquezas que guarda su dueño en su perjuicio,

(13) las riquezas que se pierden por algún suceso desafortunado y si ha criado un hijo, no hay nada en su mano.

(14) Así como salío del seno de su madre, así volverá desnudo como vino y no recibirá nada por sus afanes que pueda llevar en su mano.

(15) Y éste es también un mal grave, el que así vino tendrá que irse y ¿qué provecho tiene de haberse afanado por el viento?

(16) Come también en tinieblas todos sus días, fastidiándose, enfermándose y airándose.

(17) He aquí lo que he visto: es bueno y propio que el hombre coma, beba y disfrute de todas sus tareas en las que se empeña bajo el sol, todos los días de su vida que Dios le dio, porque esa es su porción.

(18) Todo hombre a quien Dios le dio riqueza y poder para aprovecharlas, tomar su porción y alegrarse en su trabajo, (debe saber que) eso es un don de Dios.

(19) Que se acuerde pues (el hombre) que los días de su vida no son muchos y que Dios le responde (al darle) alegría a su corazón.
