1 Hearken, you islands, to me, and listen closely, you nations, from afar; the Lord called me from the womb, from the innards of my mother He mentioned my name.		אשִׁמְע֚וּ אִיִּים֙ אֵלַ֔י וְהַקְשִׁ֥יבוּ לְאֻמִּ֖ים מֵֽרָח֑וֹק יְהֹוָה֙ מִבֶּ֣טֶן קְרָאָ֔נִי מִמְּעֵ֥י אִמִּ֖י הִזְכִּ֥יר שְׁמִֽי:
2 And He made my mouth like a sharp sword, He concealed me in the shadow of His hand; and He made me into a polished arrow, He hid me in His quiver.		בוַיָּ֚שֶׂם פִּי֙ כְּחֶ֣רֶב חַדָּ֔ה בְּצֵ֥ל יָד֖וֹ הֶחְבִּיאָ֑נִי וַיְשִׂימֵ֙נִי֙ לְחֵ֣ץ בָּר֔וּר בְּאַשְׁפָּת֖וֹ הִסְתִּירָֽנִי:
3 And He said to me, “You are My servant, Israel, about whom I will boast.”		גוַיֹּ֥אמֶר לִ֖י עַבְדִּי־אָ֑תָּה יִשְׂרָאֵ֕ל אֲשֶׁר־בְּךָ֖ אֶתְפָּאָֽר:
4 And I said, “I toiled in vain, I consumed my strength for nought and vanity.” Yet surely my right is with the Lord, and my deed is with my God.		דוַֽאֲנִ֚י אָמַ֙רְתִּי֙ לְרִ֣יק יָגַ֔עְתִּי לְתֹ֥הוּ וְהֶ֖בֶל כֹּחִ֣י כִלֵּ֑יתִי אָכֵן֙ מִשְׁפָּטִ֣י אֶת־יְהֹוָ֔ה וּפְעֻלָּתִ֖י אֶת־אֱלֹהָֽי:
5 And now, the Lord, Who formed me from the womb as a servant to Him, said to bring Jacob back to Him, and Israel shall be gathered to Him, and I will be honored in the eyes of the Lord, and my God was my strength.		הוְעַתָּ֣ה | אָמַ֣ר יְהֹוָ֗ה יֹֽצְרִ֚י מִבֶּ֙טֶן֙ לְעֶ֣בֶד ל֔וֹ לְשׁוֹבֵ֚ב יַֽעֲקֹב֙ אֵלָ֔יו וְיִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל ל֣וֹ (כתיב לֹ֣א) יֵאָסֵ֑ף וְאֶכָּבֵד֙ בְּעֵינֵ֣י יְהֹוָ֔ה וֵֽאלֹהַ֖י הָיָ֥ה עֻזִּֽי:
6 And He said, “It is too light for you to be My servant, to establish the tribes of Jacob and to bring back the besieged of Israel, but I will make you a light of nations, so that My salvation shall be until the end of the earth.”		ווַיֹּ֗אמֶר נָקֵ֨ל מִֽהְיֽוֹתְךָ֥ לִי֙ עֶ֔בֶד לְהָקִים֙ אֶת־שִׁבְטֵ֣י יַֽעֲקֹ֔ב וּנְצוּרֵ֥י (כתיב וּנְציּרֵ֥י) יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל לְהָשִׁ֑יב וּנְתַתִּ֙יךָ֙ לְא֣וֹר גּוֹיִ֔ם לִֽהְי֥וֹת יְשֽׁוּעָתִ֖י עַד־קְצֵ֥ה הָאָֽרֶץ:
7So said the Lord, the Redeemer of Israel, his Holy One, about him who is despised of men, about him whom the nation abhors, about a slave of rulers, “Kings shall see and rise, princes, and they shall prostrate themselves, for the sake of the Lord Who is faithful, the Holy One of Israel, and He chose you.”		זכֹּ֣ה אָֽמַר־יְהֹוָה֩ גֹּאֵ֨ל יִשְׂרָאֵ֜ל קְדוֹשׁ֗וֹ לִבְזֹה־נֶ֜פֶשׁ לִמְתָ֚עֵֽב גּוֹי֙ לְעֶ֣בֶד מֹֽשְׁלִ֔ים מְלָכִים֙ יִרְא֣וּ וָקָ֔מוּ שָׂרִ֖ים וְיִֽשְׁתַּֽחֲו֑וּ לְמַ֚עַן יְהֹוָה֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר נֶֽאֱמָ֔ן קְדֹ֥שׁ יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל וַיִּבְחָרֶֽךָּ:
8 So said the Lord, “In a time of favor I answered you, and on a day of salvation I helped you; and I will watch you, and I will make you for a people of a covenant, to establish a land, to cause to inherit the desolate heritages.		חכֹּ֣ה | אָמַ֣ר יְהֹוָ֗ה בְּעֵ֚ת רָצוֹן֙ עֲנִיתִ֔יךָ וּבְי֥וֹם יְשׁוּעָ֖ה עֲזַרְתִּ֑יךָ וְאֶצָּרְךָ֗ וְאֶתֶּנְךָ֙ לִבְרִ֣ית עָ֔ם לְהָקִ֣ים אֶ֔רֶץ לְהַנְחִ֖יל נְחָל֥וֹת שֹֽׁמֵמֽוֹת:
9 To say to the prisoners, “Go out!” and to the darkness, “Show yourselves!” By the roads they shall graze, and by all rivers is their pasture.		טלֵאמֹ֚ר לַֽאֲסוּרִים֙ צֵ֔אוּ לַֽאֲשֶׁ֥ר בַּחֹ֖שֶׁךְ הִגָּל֑וּ עַל־דְּרָכִ֣ים יִרְע֔וּ וּבְכָל־שְׁפָיִ֖ים מַרְעִיתָֽם:
10 They shall neither hunger nor thirst, nor shall the heat and the sun smite them, for He Who has mercy on them shall lead them, and by the springs of water He shall guide them.		ילֹ֚א יִרְעָ֙בוּ֙ וְלֹ֣א יִצְמָ֔אוּ וְלֹֽא־יַכֵּ֥ם שָׁרָ֖ב וָשָׁ֑מֶשׁ כִּֽי־מְרַֽחֲמָ֣ם יְנַֽהֲגֵ֔ם וְעַל־מַבּ֥וּעֵי מַ֖יִם יְנַֽהֲלֵֽם:
11 And I will make all My mountains into a road, and My highways shall be raised.		יאוְשַׂמְתִּ֥י כָל־הָרַ֖י לַדָּ֑רֶךְ וּמְסִלֹּתַ֖י יְרֻמֽוּן:
12 Behold, these shall come from afar, and behold these from the north and from the west, and these from the land of Sinim.		יבהִנֵּ֣ה אֵ֕לֶּה מֵֽרָח֖וֹק יָבֹ֑אוּ וְהִנֵּה־אֵ֙לֶּה֙ מִצָּפ֣וֹן וּמִיָּ֔ם וְאֵ֖לֶּה מֵאֶ֥רֶץ סִינִֽים:
13 Sing, O heavens, and rejoice, O earth, and mountains burst out in song, for the Lord has consoled His people, and He shall have mercy on His poor.		יגרָנּ֚וּ שָׁמַ֙יִם֙ וְגִ֣ילִי אָ֔רֶץ וּפִצְח֥וּ (כתיב יּפִצְח֥וּ) הָרִ֖ים רִנָּ֑ה כִּֽי־נִחַ֚ם יְהֹוָה֙ עַמּ֔וֹ וַֽעֲנִיָּ֖ו יְרַחֵֽם:
14 And Zion said, “The Lord has forsaken me, and the Lord has forgotten me.”		ידוַתֹּ֥אמֶר צִיּ֖וֹן עֲזָבַ֣נִי יְהֹוָ֑ה וַֽאדֹנָ֖י שְׁכֵחָֽנִי:
15 Shall a woman forget her sucking child, from having mercy on the child of her womb? These too shall forget, but I will not forget you.		טוהֲתִשְׁכַּ֚ח אִשָּׁה֙ עוּלָ֔הּ מֵֽרַחֵ֖ם בֶּן־בִּטְנָ֑הּ גַּם־אֵ֣לֶּה תִשְׁכַּ֔חְנָה וְאָֽנֹכִ֖י לֹ֥א אֶשְׁכָּחֵֽךְ:
16 Behold on [My] hands have I engraved you; your walls are before Me always.		טזהֵ֥ן עַל־כַּפַּ֖יִם חַקֹּתִ֑יךְ חֽוֹמֹתַ֥יִךְ נֶגְדִּ֖י תָּמִֽיד:
17Your sons have hastened; those who destroy you and those who lay you waste shall go forth from you.		יזמִֽהֲר֖וּ בָּנָ֑יִךְ מְהָֽרְסַ֥יִךְ וּמַֽחֲרִיבַ֖יִךְ מִמֵּ֥ךְ יֵצֵֽאוּ:
18 Lift your eyes around and see, all of them have gathered, have come to you; as I live, says the Lord, that you shall wear all of them as jewelry, and you shall tie them as a bride.		יחשְׂאִ֨י־סָבִ֚יב עֵינַ֙יִךְ֙ וּרְאִ֔י כֻּלָּ֖ם נִקְבְּצ֣וּ בָֽאוּ־לָ֑ךְ חַי־אָ֣נִי נְאֻם־יְהֹוָ֗ה כִּ֚י כֻלָּם֙ כַּֽעֲדִ֣י תִלְבָּ֔שִׁי וּתְקַשְּׁרִ֖ים כַּכַּלָּֽה:
19 For your ruins and your desolate places and your land that has been destroyed, for now you shall be crowded by the inhabitants, and those who would destroy you shall be far away.		יטכִּ֚י חָרְבֹתַ֙יִךְ֙ וְשֹׁ֣מְמֹתַ֔יִךְ וְאֶ֖רֶץ הֲרִֽסֻתֵ֑ךְ כִּ֚י עַתָּה֙ תֵּֽצְרִ֣י מִיּוֹשֵׁ֔ב וְרָֽחֲק֖וּ מְבַלְּעָֽיִךְ:
20 Your children of whom you were bereaved shall yet say in your ears, “The place is too narrow for me; move over for me so that I will dwell.”		כעוֹד יֹֽאמְר֣וּ בְאָזְנַ֔יִךְ בְּנֵ֖י שִׁכֻּלָ֑יִךְ צַר־לִ֥י הַמָּק֖וֹם גְּשָׁה־לִּ֥י וְאֵשֵֽׁבָה:
21 And you shall say to yourself, “Who begot these for me, seeing that I am bereaved and solitary, exiled and rejected, and who raised these? Behold I was left alone; these-[from] where are they?”		כאוְאָמַ֣רְתְּ בִּלְבָבֵ֗ךְ מִ֚י יָֽלַד־לִי֙ אֶת־אֵ֔לֶּה וַֽאֲנִ֥י שְׁכוּלָ֖ה וְגַלְמוּדָ֑ה גֹּלָ֣ה | וְסוּרָ֗ה וְאֵ֙לֶּה֙ מִ֣י גִדֵּ֔ל הֵ֚ן אֲנִי֙ נִשְׁאַ֣רְתִּי לְבַדִּ֔י אֵ֖לֶּה אֵיפֹ֥ה הֵֽם:
22 So said the Lord God, “Behold I will raise My hand to the nations, and to the peoples will I raise My standard, and they shall bring your sons in their armpits, and your daughters shall be borne on their shoulder[s].		כבכֹּֽה־אָמַ֞ר אֲדֹנָ֣י יֱהֹוִ֗ה הִנֵּ֨ה אֶשָּׂ֚א אֶל־גּוֹיִם֙ יָדִ֔י וְאֶל־עַמִּ֖ים אָרִ֣ים נִסִּ֑י וְהֵבִ֚יאוּ בָנַ֙יִךְ֙ בְּחֹ֔צֶן וּבְנֹתַ֖יִךְ עַל־כָּתֵ֥ף תִּנָּשֶֽׂאנָה:
23 And kings shall be your nursing fathers and their princesses your wet nurses; they shall prostrate themselves to you with their face on the ground, and they shall lick the dust of your feet, and you shall know that I am the Lord, for those who wait for Me shall not be ashamed.		כגוְהָי֨וּ מְלָכִ֜ים אֹֽמְנַ֗יִךְ וְשָׂרֽוֹתֵיהֶם֙ מֵינִ֣יקֹתַ֔יִךְ אַפַּ֗יִם אֶרֶץ יִשְׁתַּֽחֲווּ לָ֔ךְ וַֽעֲפַ֥ר רַגְלַ֖יִךְ יְלַחֵ֑כוּ וְיָדַ֙עַתְּ֙ כִּֽי־אֲנִ֣י יְהֹוָ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר לֹֽא־יֵבֹ֖שׁוּ קוָֹֽי:
24 Shall prey be taken from a mighty warrior, or shall the captives of the righteous escape?”		כדהֲיֻקַּ֥ח מִגִּבּ֖וֹר מַלְק֑וֹחַ וְאִם־שְׁבִ֥י צַדִּ֖יק יִמָּלֵֽט:
25 For so said the Lord, “Even the captives of a mighty warrior can be taken and the prey of a tyrant shall escape, and with your contender will I contend, and your sons I will save.		כהכִּי־כֹ֣ה | אָמַ֣ר יְהֹוָ֗ה גַּם־שְׁבִ֚י גִבּוֹר֙ יֻקָּ֔ח וּמַלְק֥וֹחַ עָרִ֖יץ יִמָּלֵ֑ט וְאֶת־יְרִיבֵךְ֙ אָֽנֹכִ֣י אָרִ֔יב וְאֶת־בָּנַ֖יִךְ אָֽנֹכִ֥י אוֹשִֽׁיעַ:
26 And those who taunt you-I will feed their flesh, and as with sweet wine they shall become drunk [from] their blood; and all flesh shall know that I am the Lord Who saves you, and your Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob.		כווְהַֽאֲכַלְתִּ֚י אֶת־מוֹנַ֙יִךְ֙ אֶת־בְּשָׂרָ֔ם וְכֶֽעָסִ֖יס דָּמָ֣ם יִשְׁכָּר֑וּן וְיָֽדְע֣וּ כָל־בָּשָׂ֗ר כִּ֣י אֲנִ֚י יְהֹוָה֙ מֽוֹשִׁיעֵ֔ךְ וְגֹֽאֲלֵ֖ךְ אֲבִ֥יר יַֽעֲקֹֽב:

ISAÍAS 49

(1) Escuchadme, oh islas y escuchad, pueblos lejanos. El Eterno me ha llamado desde el seno materno. Desde las entrañas de mi madre hizo mención de mi nombre.

(2) E hizo mi boca como una espada aguda. En la sombra de Su mano me escondió y me ha hecho como una saeta reluciente. En Su mano me escondió y me ha hecho como una saeta reluciente. En Su aljaba me ocultó,

(3) y me dijo: “Eres Mi siervo, Israel, en quien seré glorificado”.

(4) Pero respondí: “He trabajado en vano. He malgastado mi vigor para nada. Pero de seguro, mi derecho es con el Eterno y mi recompensa con mi Dios”.

(5) Y dice el Eterno que me formó desde el seno materno para ser Su siervo, para traer a Jacob de vuelta a Él y para que Israel sea convocado ante Él porque soy honrado a los ojos del Eterno y mi Dios se ha tornado en mi fuerza.

(6) Y dice Él: “Es cosa muy liviana que tú seas Mi siervo para levantar a las tribus de Jacob y restaurar los descendientes de Israel. Además te pondré como luz de las naciones para que Mi salvación sea hasta los confines de la tierra”.

(7) Así dice el Eterno, el redentor de Israel, su Santo, el que es despreciado por los hombres, el que es aborrecido por las naciones, el siervo de gobernantes: Reyes verán y se levantarán, príncipes se postrarán a causa del Eterno que es fiel, el santo de Israel que te ha protegido.

(8) Así dice el Eterno: A su tiempo, te he respondido. Y en día de salvación, te he ayudado. Te preservaré y te pondré como pacto a las naciones del pueblo para levantar la tierra, para hacer que se posean las heredades desoladas,

(9) diciendo a los prisioneros: “¡Salid!” y a los que están en tinieblas: “¡Mostraos!”. Se alimentarán en los caminos y sobre todos los cerros altos estarán sus pastos.

(10) No padecerán hambre ni sed, ni les herirán el calor ni el sol porque Él ha tenido compasión de quienes les conducirán. Por  la fuentes de agua, Él ha de guiarlos.

(11) Y convertiré todas Mis montañas en camino real y Mis caminos serán elevados.

(12) He aquí que vendrán de lejos: del norte, del oeste y de la tierra de Sinim.

(13) Cantad oh cielos, y alegraos, oh tierra; romped en cánticos, oh montañas porque el Eterno ha consolado a Su pueblo y se ha compadecido de Sus afligidos.

(14) Pero dice Sión: “El Eterno me ha abandonado y el Señor me ha olvidado”.

(15) ¿Puede una mujer olvidar a su hijo para que no se compadezca del hijo de su seno? Sí, ellas pueden olvidar, pero Yo no te olvidaré.

(16) He aqui que te he grabado sobre las palmas de Mis manos. Tus muros están constantemente ante Mí.

(17) Que tus hijos se apresuren. Tus asoladores y los que te saquearon saldrán de ti.

(18) Alza tus ojos enredador y contempla. Todos estos se reúnen y vienen a ti. Como que vivo, dice el Eterno, de seguro te vestirás con todos ellos como con un ornamento y te ceñirás con ellos como una novia.

(19) Porque tu desierto, tus lugares arrasados y tu tierra que ha sido destruida, de seguro han de ser ahora demasiado estrecho para los habitantes y los que te tragaron estarán lejos.

(20) Los hijos de tu desamparo diran todavía en tus oídos: “El lugar es demasiado estrecho para mí: Dáme  lugar para que pueda vivir”.

(21) Entonces, dirás en tu corazón:”¿Quién ha engendrado éstos, viendo que he sido desprovisto de mis hijo y estoy solo, exiliado y errante de un lado a otro? ¿Y quién lo ha criado? He aquí que me quedé solo. Estos ¿dónde estaban?”.

(22) Así dice el Señor: He aquí que alzaré Mi mano a las naciones y estableceré Mi bandera para los pueblos; traerán a sus hijos en su seno y tus hijas serán llevadas en hombros.

(23) Y los reyes serán tus padres adoptivos y sus reinas, tus amas de leche. Se inclinarán ante ti rostro a tierra y lamerán empolvo de tus pies. Sabrán que Yo soy el Eterno porque no se avergonzarán quienes Me esperan.

(24) ¿Debe la presa ser quitada a los poderosos, o los cautivos de los victoriosos deberían ser librados?

(25) pero así dice el Eterno: Hasta los cautivos de los poderosos serán llevados y la presa de los tiranos será librada. Yo contenderé con el que contienda conmigo y salvaré a tus hijos.

(26) Y alimentaré a los que te oprimen con su propia carne. Y será ahogada con su propia sangre, como con vino dulce. Y toda carne sabrá que Yo soy el Eterno tu Salvador y tu redentor, el Todopoderoso de Jacob.
