Hoy es el primero de los dos días de Rosh Jodesh (“Cabeza del mes”) para el mes de “Iyar” (cuando un mes tiene 30 días, tanto el último día del mes como el primer día del mes siguiente sirven como Rosh Jodesh del mes siguiente).
Se agregan porciones especiales a las oraciones diarias: se recita Halel (Salmos 113-118), en su forma “parcial”.
Muchos tienen la costumbre de conmemorar Rosh Jodesh con una comida festiva y una actividad laboral reducida. Esta última costumbre prevalece entre las mujeres, que tienen una afinidad especial con Rosh Jodesh, siendo el mes el aspecto femenino del
calendario Judío.

Iyar el mes del resplandor.
El mes de Iyar se conoce en la Torá como Jodesh Ziv o el mes del resplandor y se dice que está bendecido con el poder de curar. Una característica interesante y única de este mes es que las letras iniciales del nombre hebreo del mes, א-י-ר, deletrean las letras iniciales del versículo אֲ’נִי יְ’הוָה רֹ’פְאֶךָ – “Yo soy Hashem tu Sanador” (Éxodo 15:26).
The month of Iyar is known in the Torah as Chodesh Ziv or the month of radiance and is said to be blessed with the power of healing. An interesting and unique feature of this month is that the initial letters of the Hebrew name of the month, א-י-ר spell the initial letters of the verse אֲ’נִי יְ’הוָה רֹ’פְאֶךָ – “I am Hashem your Healer” (Exodus 15:26).
