The name of the Parshah, “Bamidbar,” means “In the desert” and it is found in Numbers 1:1.

Bamidbar

Es en el desierto donde Israel renace como “un reino de sacerdotes y una nación santa”.

Toda la descripción del campamento al comienzo de Bamidbar, con su énfasis en la igualdad, encaja perfectamente con el estado ideal que la gente sólo experimenta en el espacio limitado donde han dejado atrás el pasado (Egipto) pero aún no han llegado a su destino futuro, la tierra de Israel.

La experiencia de Israel en el desierto resultó ser muy significativa. Es aquí donde la gente experimenta una de las ideas más revolucionarias de la Torá: que una sociedad ideal es aquella en la que todos tienen la misma dignidad bajo la soberanía de Dios.

 

En el desierto del Sinaí, Dios le ordenó a Moshé que realizara un censo (conteo) de las doce tribus de Israel. Contaron con 603.550 hombres de entre 20 y 60 años, considerados aptos para el servicio militar.

La tribu de Leví, con un total de 22.300 varones de un mes de edad o más, se contó por separado para servir en el Mishkán, reemplazando a los hijos primogénitos descalificados. Los 273 primogénitos sin un sustituto de Leví pagaron un rescate de cinco siclos.

Cuando los israelitas trasladaron su campamento, los Leviim transportaron y reunieron el Mishkán en el centro del nuevo campamento. Los coatitas llevaron los vasos del Mishkán y acamparon al sur, los gersonitas manejaron los tapices al oeste y los meraritas transportaron los paneles de las paredes al norte.

Nuestra parashá también explica el diseño. Moshé, Aharón y sus hijos acamparon al este. Rodeando a los Leviim, las doce tribus acamparon en cuatro grupos de tres: Yehuda, Issachar y Zevulun al este; Reuven, Shimon y Gad al sur; Efraín, Menashe y Benjamín al oeste; y Dan, Aser y Neftalí al norte. Esta configuración se mantuvo durante todos los viajes futuros.

 

El desierto es un lugar de silencio. 

De vez en cuando necesitamos alejarnos del ruido y el bullicio del mundo social y crear en nuestros corazones la quietud del desierto donde, dentro del silencio, podemos escuchar el kol demama daka, la suave y apacible voz de Dios, diciéndonos que somos amados, somos escuchados, somos abrazados por los brazos eternos de Di-s, no estamos solos.

11 Y dijo: Salid y ponte en el monte delante del Señor, ¡he aquí! El Señor pasa, y un viento grande y fuerte partía montañas y destrozaba rocas delante del Señor, pero el Señor no estaba en el viento. Y detrás del viento un terremoto; no en el terremoto estaba el Señor.

1 And the number of the children of Israel shall be as the sand of the sea, which shall neither be measured nor counted; and it shall come to pass that, instead of saying to them, “You are not My people,” it shall be said to them, “The children of the living God.”		אוְֽ֠הָיָה מִסְפַּ֚ר בְּנֵֽי־יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ כְּח֣וֹל הַיָּ֔ם אֲשֶׁ֥ר לֹֽא־יִמַּ֖ד וְלֹ֣א יִסָּפֵ֑ר וְֽ֠הָיָה בִּמְק֞וֹם אֲשֶׁר־יֵֽאָמֵ֚ר לָהֶם֙ לֹֽא־עַמִּ֣י אַתֶּ֔ם יֵֽאָמֵ֥ר לָהֶ֖ם בְּנֵ֥י אֵֽל־חָֽי:

4 Strive with your mother, strive, for she is not My wife, and I am not her Husband, and let her remove her harlotries from her face and her adulteries from between her breasts.		דרִ֚יבוּ בְאִמְּכֶם֙ רִ֔יבוּ כִּֽי־הִיא֙ לֹ֣א אִשְׁתִּ֔י וְאָֽנֹכִ֖י לֹ֣א אִישָׁ֑הּ וְתָסֵ֚ר זְנוּנֶ֙יהָ֙ מִפָּנֶ֔יה וְנַֽאֲפוּפֶ֖יהָ מִבֵּ֥ין שָׁדֶֽיהָ:

7 For their mother played the harlot; she who conceived them behaved shamefully, for she said, “I will go after my lovers, those who give my bread and my water, my wool and my flax, my oil and my drinks. “		זכִּ֚י זָֽנְתָה֙ אִמָּ֔ם הוֹבִ֖ישָׁה הֽוֹרָתָ֑ם כִּ֣י אָֽמְרָ֗ה אֵֽלְכָ֞ה אַֽחֲרֵ֚י מְאַֽהֲבַי֙ נֹֽתְנֵ֚י לַחְמִי֙ וּמֵימַ֔י צַמְרִ֣י וּפִשְׁתִּ֔י שַׁמְנִ֖י וְשִׁקּוּיָֽי:
8 Therefore, behold I will close off your way with thorns, and I make a fence against her, and she shall not find her paths.		חלָכֵ֛ן הִֽנְנִי־שָׂ֥ךְ אֶת־דַּרְכֵּ֖ךְ בַּסִּירִ֑ים וְגָֽדַרְתִּי֙ אֶת־גְּדֵרָ֔הּ וּנְתִֽיבוֹתֶ֖יהָ לֹ֥א תִמְצָֽא:
9 And she shall pursue her lovers and not overtake them, and she shall seek them and not find them; and she shall say, “I will go and return to my first Husband, for it was better for me then than now.		טוְרִדְּפָ֚ה אֶת־מְאַֽהֲבֶ֙יהָ֙ וְלֹֽא־תַשִּׂ֣יג אֹתָ֔ם וּבִקְשָׁ֖תַם וְלֹ֣א תִמְצָ֑א וְאָֽמְרָ֗ה אֵֽלְכָ֚ה וְאָשׁ֙וּבָה֙ אֶל־אִישִׁ֣י הָֽרִאשׁ֔וֹן כִּ֣י ט֥וֹב לִ֛י אָ֖ז מֵעָֽתָּה:
10 But she did not know that I gave her the corn, the wine, and the oil, and I gave her much silver and gold, but they made it for Baal.		יוְהִיא֙ לֹ֣א יָֽדְעָ֔ה כִּ֚י אָֽנֹכִי֙ נָתַ֣תִּי לָ֔הּ הַדָּגָ֖ן וְהַתִּיר֣וֹשׁ וְהַיִּצְהָ֑ר וְכֶ֨סֶף הִרְבֵּ֥יתִי לָ֛הּ וְזָהָ֖ב עָשׂ֥וּ לַבָּֽעַל:
11 Therefore, I will return and take My corn in its time and My wine in its appointed season, and I will separate My wool and My flax, to cover her nakedness.		יאלָכֵ֣ן אָשׁ֔וּב וְלָֽקַחְתִּ֚י דְגָנִי֙ בְּעִתּ֔וֹ וְתִֽירוֹשִׁ֖י בְּמֽוֹעֲד֑וֹ וְהִצַּלְתִּי֙ צַמְרִ֣י וּפִשְׁתִּ֔י לְכַסּ֖וֹת אֶת־עֶרְוָתָֽהּ:
12 And now, I will bare her disgrace before the eyes of her lovers, and no man shall save her from My hand.		יבוְעַתָּ֛ה אֲגַלֶּ֥ה אֶת־נַבְלֻתָ֖הּ לְעֵינֵ֣י מְאַֽהֲבֶ֑יהָ וְאִ֥ישׁ לֹֽא־יַצִּילֶ֖נָּה מִיָּדִֽי:
13 And I will terminate all her rejoicing, her festival[s], her new moon[s], and her Sabbath[s], and all her appointed seasons.		יגוְהִשְׁבַּתִּי֙ כָּל־מְשׂוֹשָׂ֔הּ חַגָּ֖הּ חָדְשָׁ֣הּ וְשַׁבַּתָּ֑הּ וְכֹ֖ל מֽוֹעֲדָֽהּ:
14 And I will lay waste her vine[s] and her fig tree[s], [concerning] which she said, “They are my hire, which my lovers have given me,” and I will make them a forest, and the beasts of the field shall devour them.		ידוַֽהֲשִׁמֹּתִ֚י גַּפְנָהּ֙ וּתְאֵ֣נָתָ֔הּ אֲשֶׁ֣ר אָֽמְרָ֗ה אֶתְנָ֥ה הֵ֙מָּה֙ לִ֔י אֲשֶׁ֥ר נָֽתְנוּ־לִ֖י מְאַֽהֲבָ֑י וְשַׂמְתִּ֣ים לְיַ֔עַר וַֽאֲכָלָ֖תַם חַיַּ֥ת הַשָּׂדֶֽה:
15 And I will visit upon her the days of the baalim, to whom she burnt incense, and she adorned herself with her earrings and her jewelry, and went after her lovers, and she forgot Me, says the Lord.		טווּפָֽקַדְתִּ֣י עָלֶ֗יהָ אֶת־יְמֵ֚י הַבְּעָלִים֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר תַּקְטִ֣יר לָהֶ֔ם וַתַּ֚עַד נִזְמָהּ֙ וְחֶלְיָתָ֔הּ וַתֵּ֖לֶךְ אַֽחֲרֵ֣י מְאַֽהֲבֶ֑יהָ וְאוֹתִ֥י שָֽׁכְחָ֖ה נְאֻם־יְהֹוָֽה:
16 Therefore, behold I will allure her and lead her into the desert, and I will speak comfortingly to her heart.		טזלָכֵ֗ן הִנֵּ֚ה אָֽנֹכִי֙ מְפַתֶּ֔יהָ וְהֹֽלַכְתִּ֖יהָ הַמִּדְבָּ֑ר וְדִבַּרְתִּ֖י עַל־לִבָּֽהּ:
17 And I will give her her vineyards from there and the depth of trouble for a door of hope, and she shall dwell there as in the days of her youth, and as the day of her ascent from the land of Egypt.		יזוְנָתַ֨תִּי לָ֚הּ אֶת־כְּרָמֶ֙יהָ֙ מִשָּׁ֔ם וְאֶת־עֵ֥מֶק עָכ֖וֹר לְפֶ֣תַח תִּקְוָ֑ה וְעָ֚נְתָה שָּׁ֙מָּה֙ כִּימֵ֣י נְעוּרֶ֔יהָ וּכְי֖וֹם עֲלוֹתָ֥הּ מֵאֶֽרֶץ־מִצְרָֽיִם:
18 And it shall come to pass on that day, says the Lord, you shall call [Me] Ishi, and you shall no longer call Me Baali.		יחוְהָיָ֚ה בַיּֽוֹם־הַהוּא֙ נְאֻם־יְהֹוָ֔ה תִּקְרְאִ֖י אִישִׁ֑י וְלֹֽא־תִקְרְאִי־לִ֥י ע֖וֹד בַּעֲלִֽי:
19 And I will remove the names of the baalim from her mouth, and they shall no longer be mentioned by their name.		יטוַֽהֲסִֽרֹתִ֛י אֶת־שְׁמ֥וֹת הַבְּעָלִ֖ים מִפִּ֑יהָ וְלֹֽא־יִזָּכְר֥וּ ע֖וֹד בִּשְׁמָֽם:
20 And I will make a covenant for them on that day with the beasts of the field and with the fowl of the sky and the creeping things of the earth; and the bow, the sword, and war I will break off the earth, and I will let them lie down safely.		כוְכָֽרַתִּ֨י לָהֶ֚ם בְּרִית֙ בַּיּ֣וֹם הַה֔וּא עִם־חַיַּ֚ת הַשָּׂדֶה֙ וְעִם־ע֣וֹף הַשָּׁמַ֔יִם וְרֶ֖מֶשׂ הָֽאֲדָמָ֑ה וְקֶ֨שֶׁת וְחֶ֚רֶב וּמִלְחָמָה֙ אֶשְׁבּ֣וֹר מִן־הָאָ֔רֶץ וְהִשְׁכַּבְתִּ֖ים לָבֶֽטַח:
21 And I will betroth you to Me forever, and I will betroth you to Me with righteousness and with justice and with loving-kindness and with mercy.		כאוְאֵֽרַשְׂתִּ֥יךְ לִ֖י לְעוֹלָ֑ם וְאֵֽרַשְׂתִּ֥יךְ לִי֙ בְּצֶ֣דֶק וּבְמִשְׁפָּ֔ט וּבְחֶ֖סֶד וּבְרַֽחֲמִֽים:
22 And I will betroth you to Me with faith, and you shall know the Lord.		כבוְאֵֽרַשְׂתִּ֥יךְ לִ֖י בֶּאֱמוּנָ֑ה וְיָדַ֖עַתְּ אֶת־יְהֹוָֽה:

 

^{Oseas 2:1-22}

¹⁴ Pero he aquí que yo la atraeré y la llevaré al desierto, y hablaré a su corazón.

¹⁵ Y le daré sus viñas desde allí, y el valle de Acor por puerta de esperanza; y allí cantará como en los tiempos de su juventud, y como en el día de su subida de la tierra de Egipto.

¹⁶ En aquel tiempo, dice Jehová, me llamarás Ishi, y nunca más me llamarás Baali.

¹⁷ Porque quitaré de su boca los nombres de los baales, y nunca más se mencionarán sus nombres.

¹⁸ En aquel tiempo haré para ti pacto con las bestias del campo, con las aves del cielo y con las serpientes de la tierra; y quitaré de la tierra arco y espada y guerra, y te haré dormir segura.

¹⁹ Y te desposaré conmigo para siempre; te desposaré conmigo en justicia, juicio, benignidad y misericordia.

²⁰ Y te desposaré conmigo en fidelidad, y conocerás a Jehová.
